Hello. Thank you for all the support I received when I posted that I was going to have this operation. Your advice and support really helped

Update

I went in on 1st December, the operation took 10 hours and I also lost my gallbladder, but I avoided a stoma thanks to my surgeon. I did have a couple of setbacks, I got pneumonia, tiny wound infection and a dvt so ended up in hospital for 18days. I was up and moving about albeit very slowly the next day, I am now recovering at home and each day is different and ive had ups and downs, but getting there. Had my first chemo of 3 and just about to have the second, I still have a way to go but I'm feeling positive and the birth of my first grandchild in April is spurring me on.

Just need the pandemic to do one, one less hurdle to deal with! Probably getting vaccine soon

Its certainly been a rough ride since last April when this all started but I have had so much love support advice from family friends and you all. that has helped me deal with it all.

The excellent and swift care from the city hospital in nottingham and the after care from them and my doctors has been brilliant.

Thanks again, and take care everyone. Looking forward to a better summer!

Hi Casamimosa, I'm sorry you've had such a rough ride. I also had pneumonia and was hospitalised at the end of chemo. I'm sure having it after that long operation much have been much worse. Sending you much hugs, stay upbeat and all the best. I'm waiting for my first vaccine too. Sue xx

I’ve just noticed you were treated in Nottingham City hospital, where I’m due to have my op. next week. It sounds as if you are doing well now - your grandchild should be here by now! The team that I’ve met at the hospital seem very kind and competent but the surgeon who is due to operate if one I’ve not met. This does concern me, I don’t know why as I’m sure they are all good. I think my mind is just looking for things to worry about!I hope you’re still well and have fully recovered now.

Hello, nice to hear from you, yes my op went well and the team were fantastic throughout and continue to be . The surgeon who did my op was not the consultant I had seen prior but I met him on the day and he was kind and reassuring. Be aware there is more than one surgeon involved doing your operation anyway. It's been a long recovery and ups and downs along the way. Accept all the pain relief abd help you need and try abd get moving and eating as soon as you can but don't beat yourself up if you can't it does improve. Its 5 half months now and I'm feeling pretty well. I had 3 lots of chemo ( didnt cope that well this time but I got through it ) after and am now on olaparib tablets. I saw the consultants after the op for check ups and they were happy with how I am doing. My grandson was born 2 half week ago and he is gorgeous and a joy! Good luck be positive but let go if you need to have a moment too! Let me know how you get on.

Thank you. It is reassuring to hear from you. I’ve been under the medical oncology team up until now and have found everyone very caring when I’ve been in for whatever reason. It was quite a surprise to be told I could have surgery as that had never been suggested to me. The pre-op assessment went very smoothly. I suppose I just have to go along and keep my fingers crossed.Great news about your grandson, they bring such joy.

Hi yes a similar thing happened to me. The surgery offer was unexpected it came after a ct scan whilst I was having firstc6 rounds of chemo. But it wouldn't be offered if they were not confident of a good outcome. My motto has been since this whole nightmare began was be as positive as I can but not beat myself up if sometimes i wasn't! And to take what is offered to give yourself best chance. It's not been easy but I do feel so much more like i used to before I was diagnosed. Again good luck, get as fit as you can and eat plenty of good food before the op as the first few days after are challenging 😀💪👍😘

Thanks for giving me some optimism. I’ll do my best, and put my faith in the team to do the same.
