Had all 6 chemo,, ct scan today,have to wait on phone review,then parp inhibitor, fingers crossed

Patricia, do you have progression to the liver? Also, what are parps?

Parp inhibitors, for when my chemo finishes, its like a maintenance drug,hopefully keep my tumours from growing,nothing on my liver ,my cancer is in lining of my stomach and were my ovaries used to be

Thank you. I have just never heard of that term. Is it a hormonal drug? Are you all in the UK and call it something different than in US? Could you give me an example of what a Parp inhibitor would be. I guess there are several kinds? Elaine

All the best with you scan Patricia. I had carbo/Caelyx last year which reduced my 3 large tumours by 2/3rds. I started Niraparib about 5//6 weeks later but unfortunately I had bad side effect so stopped - then given Rucaparib for 5 months but that didn't work. I'm presently on Taxol which according to a reduction in my CA 125 from 110 to 11 after only 8 weeks so it looks like this is working up to now. No side effects except a bald head. Small price to pay. I hope the parp works for you which ever one you're given, They work for many ladies on this site. I'd like a chance to try another parp but I'm not sure that's possible. I hear Olaparib is one of the best.

Ladies that are on weekly Taxol as a second/third line does that mean you are on it permanently or is it a course ?

I dont know if I will be offered a parp as I read they are to keep small tumours in check and mine are HUGE , it was mentioned one or two consultants ago but new one may decide differently

Hello Rosebine, I asked my oncologist if I would be able to carry on having with Taxol if it works for me and to my surprise he said yes but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.I asked him about trying a different parp as the others didn’t work, Olaparib but he said there was not enough proof that it works. I hope that’s not 100%What I wanted to hear and I’m hoping that changes. At the moment I’m just hoping the Taxol works and there’s something to rely on for the time being.

Me too. Had scan yesterday and hoping the chemo has done its job and that I will be offered a PARP.

I hope your scan is excellent. I’ve been on Olaparib since April and for a few months the fatigue was awful—not really unpleasant but I slept all the time. By six months I was fine and the cancer remaining after chemo is gone.

Wishing you lots of positive news! I have received my 4th of 6 of Carbo/Caelyx. My consultant has said we will look at Parps after that.
