In remission for 9 years today!

Just a short good news posting - 9 years ago today I had a TAH, BSO and omentectomy and was subsequently diagnosed with stage 1a seromucinous adenocarcinoma. I did not need chemo and have never had a recurrence.

Posted in the hope that at least some of you, especially those newly diagnosed, will find that this gives you hope!

Best wishes to you all,

Barbara

Excellent news. If only there was a test that picked up ovarian cancer in its early stages, there would be more positive outcomes like yours.

Keep well,

Jenny

Hi Barbara, I’m just a few weeks behind you. Nearly 9 years since surgery for Stage 3c/ stage 4 high grade serous and no recurrence.

Love and best wishes to you and to all the women out there who are dealing with this illness.

Wow! I have high grade serous, did you have any chemotherapy? Well done to both of you! Love the good news stories.

Yes, I had 3 cycles of chemo before the surgery and another 3 afterwards. Hated it but it did do the job x

Having just read the Guardian article, seen the 5 year prognosis and done a quick calculation on my fingers I was feeling panicky and low. Then I read this and it has picked me up again. Great news for you and I hope and pray I will be the same. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Barbara-- Thank you for sharing your good news. I was diagnosed 1A borderline in May, and my first follow-up is next week. I'm starting to feel very nervous about having the CA125 test and ultrasound, so it's reassuring to hear your story. --Lani

I'm afraid follow-ups continued to be a source of anxiety for me, especially as I had (and still have) pain from adhesions, which are almost universal amongst those who have had operations such as ours. At least I'm down to once a year, and given the covid19 situation, I don't think I'll be getting one this year!
