Ca125 slight increase

Hi All,

I hope you’re keeping as well as you can.

My mum was diagnosed with OC 3A HGS in Jan 2019. Chemo till July 19 with ca125 at 13. Ca125 Jan 20 was 10 and now today 15. Do you think a jump of 5 is something we should worry about?

I know no one knows, we just have to wait and see. I was just wondering if this had happened to others and what the eventual outcome was?

Thanks.

Hello, I've been in remission for 7 years and during that time my ca125 has varied between 13 (last month) to readings of 31 and 34 which terrified me. I think docs are concerned with rapid doubling of readings rather than lesser variations and many other things can cause fluctuations. I know its difficult not to worry but it is very common to rise up and down a few numbers. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Thank you for your reply! How encouraging that you are 7 years in remission. Long may it continue!!

My Ca125 has gone to 14 from 9 after 4 1/2 years in remission.

My brilliant onco says don’t panic, It cd be a range of things, we test again in 6 weeks.

If it rises in the interim, he will order a couple of scans.

I hope that it’s nothing and long may your remission continue!

I wouldn’t be worried. Normal is below 35. CA125 is a fairly crude marker and can be affected by other things. Mine is in the 100s and sometimes doubles if the tumours are growing. Your Mum’s sounds good.

I would love to have a CA125 as low as that. I don't think I have achieved less than three figures in the nearly 3 years I have been diagnosed so I wouldn't worry about it while it stays within the 'normal' range. xxx

Hi my lovely,

Sorry you are so worried about your mum, it is so normal.

I wouldn't worry about a rise of 5, although I know how scary it is.

Normal is still under 35 and the number can fluctuate under that.

If the numbers start doubling, then that would be a cause to be more concerned, for example if they went 10-20-40-80-160 etc..

So I think your mum is OK, but it is worth getting REALLY regular ca125 checks to keep an eye on her.

Loads of love and luck to you both.

Nicky xx
