Hi Deliah,
Both my husband and I have had liver resections for cancer, and have both done very well. I have had Ovarian cancer, but my liver resection was for my other cancer, an endocrine cancer. Please be assured that the fact that they are prepared to do this surgery for you is a very good sign - they think they can remove the cancer or most of it (Yipee!) I can honestly say I felt no pain after this surgery, (they gave me an epidural) and your liver starts to regenerate almost immediately. I had my liver resection surgery in 2003. My husband had his in March this year for bowel cancer and his surgeon is delighted with the results.
I hope I have managed to reassure you, and wish you every success for your surgery.
Just seen your post.I had a liver resection in 2011 for ovarian cancer relapse, my fifth surgery and I got over this much quicker than abdominal surgeries. When they operated it was just for a small one off tumour but when they opened me up found a larger one on my diaphragm so that had to be removed as well.
It took about three months to recover some breathlessness at first but fine since then.
Good luck.Vivxx
Thank you so much. You and your husband sound as if you’ve really had a very tough time. Please keep in touch. X
Dear Delilah . I’m so sorry you are feeling anxious and frightened with surgery coming up and worrying about everything too but I thought you’d like to know last Christmas while I was in middle of chemo I attended a wedding of a dear friend who married a super man who had a few months earlier liver surgery for the same. He recovered well and I saw them recently ; he looks great ! Working full time , eating very healthy diet and walking daily with my friend, on Bournemouth beach.
Try to be optimistic and have faith in the excellent surgeon who will get that cancer out promptly !?
Thinking of you . You will find strength you didn’t know you had! Keep in touch .
With a big hug and love xx Denise
Thank you Denise. I can’t quite believe this is happening to me to be honest. I feel so well. Fit as a butcher’s dog you might say. I’m walking between 8-10 miles per day, eating well, working from home etc. I’ve gone from stage two to stage four virtually overnight. ☹️ How are you getting on?
Best wishes.
Paula.
