Hi everyone I’m looking for some advise my mum has primarily peritoneal cancer it’s come back after a year they have started her on carboplatin she can’t tolerate paclitaxel as it gave her chest pains. I am trying to find out if she could have a targeted therapy to run along side her chemo. My other question was if anyone has used oncologica in Cambridge who find out the mutated gene and match it with the right targeted therapy she has an appointment tomorrow with her oncologist for the results of her scan after 3 rounds of chemo I just want to find out if there are other treatments that would help her as her before tomorrow as the oncologist doesn’t seem to give us much advise what is available. Love to all and best wishes with everyone’s treatment Ali x

Hi Ali. I’m sorry your mum has recurred. Someone asked me the other day what would we have done differently - if anything - when my mum was diagnosed with low grade ovarian cancer 9 years ago. My answer was that I wished we had been at a specialist centre from the start, where we could have has access to more targeted treatments, rather than the ‘standard’ therapies - which are still very good - just because that is what is typically used with a particular cancer. My mum is now on a trial after her cancer started to progress, and this is targeted at the mutation, rather than primary origin.

If you are not at a specialist centre, like the Marsden or Christie, would you think about being referred to them so you have access to experts in this field, who only see gynae cancers day in day out?

I hope tomorrow goes well for your mum xx

Hi Charlotte how is your mum doing on the targeted therapy ? We will see how she get on tomorrow, hopefully the chemo is working she has three more rounds to go. I have researched the hospitals that specialise in mums condition and the nearest is london so she decided to have chemo near her as travelling on the train when your feeling rough may have been a bit much. Does your mum have the targeted therapy in tablet form at home? I definitely agree that she would benefit by seeing an expert in this field. How did your mum get on the best trial for her cancer?

Thank you for your reply and hope your mum does well on this and take care yourself.

Kind regards Ali
