I’ve learnt something that I would like to share with you all. I asked my husband to check at Manchester Airport to see if head scarfs are an issue, he was told they are not and no one would ask me to remove it. They also told him if you go to the Assistance Desk (one in each terminal) and ask for a Sunflower Lanyard to wear, then that lets all the staff know you have a hidden disability even if you haven’t requested additional assistance, it just lets them know you may need extra help or understanding. It also allows you through the family/priority lanes so you’re not standing too much if that’s an issue. I thought this was fantastic and will be trying it out next week when I go away, so I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks - turned out I am still NED with CA125 3. I'm not gonna broadcast it though as I know others are having a rough time. x
I hope they have no end date for you with this trial!! Congrats. Ox
Thanks! Onc did say that he thought he might be retiring and I'd still be on it....... given I am 60 and hes about 30 (tall and very good looking - I'm not dead yet) I said I think I might not last quite that long! lol
Will be very interested to hear how you get on , I will need wheelchair assistance. Hoping to go from Manchester in September. Fingers crossed for check up in September.
Good luck xx
Just googled and it appears most if not all uk airports run this 'scheme'.
I got in touch with Bristol airport and they've told me that I can collect one from the airport when I check in.
Thanks for that.
I had read about the Sunflower Lanyards but had no idea where they were available. They are such a good idea.
Just wanted to add that I booked assistance at Birmingham airport when I flew from there in May. They were brilliant but I had not realized that they also have electric scooters which you can borrow whilst in the airport even if you don’t want the full assistance package. You can use the scooter through check in, security, duty free and right to the gate. Really made things easier for me and my daughter.

Most UK airports have the lanyards. I think it's a brilliant idea. I do know at Newcastle and Edinburgh Airport you can get them by post if you ring in advance so you may be able to do that with other airports as well 😊🌻

Thank you for that info. it is certainly worth knowing. Have a really great holiday & take care.xx
That’s really good to know. I’ve just travelled from Manchester airport, so maybe next time...it’s the standing, but I keep convincing myself it’s good for me, using up calories, and doing some ankle exercises! 😂
Thank you for this. Going to see if the US does anything similar (altho I doubt it). oxox
I picked up a lanyard at Manchester T2 a few weeks ago. It was fantastic, ushered through priority check in and the same through security. I have a colostomy and always get stopped at security so they can check my bag. I hate it. But this time because of the lanyard the staff were much more tactful and sensitive. Also on my return they told me to use the priority/assistance lane at immigration. Brilliant not to be standing around waiting for ages. Can’t recommend this scheme highly enough.
Have a great holiday xx
What a nice idea. Will check at Munich airport next time I'm there, whether they have anything similar in place. But knowing my fellow bavarians, they will probably just tell me to go sit in a beer garden and get over it . xx
How wonderful! I'm wondering if the airports here in NY do that. I highly doubt it. Lucky they even let us through checkpoints under normal circumstances.
