Hi Claire. If its like mine its all pretty straight forward. I had counselling to make sure I understood the implications of the test, ie that I could have passed any faulty gene on. More a chat really. All very easy. x
thanks if you do have the “ faulty gene” are you given any options ?
Not really, there arent any options apart from telling my children and siblings so they can be tested if they wanted. My son has and hes tested positive, my daughter hasnt yet. My neice and nephew have tested clear. My older brother has tested with a mutation and has had prostrate and a blood cancer .
I was sent for the counselling which was just a chat but the counsellor decided that I did not need the test and that was that.
Hi Claire, I only had an appt with genetics after I had BRCA gene confirmed by my oncologist. Prior to the appt I had to complete a family history form. During the appt we mainly discussed my risk for breast cancer and my families risk of this and oca. The geneticist was really lovely and supportive. She referred family members for testing and I was referred for breast screening. I’ve not seen them since. Hope your appointment goes well. Jo xx
Just want to wish you all the best, I was 1c, but mucinous and was told that didn’t involve gene testing, but I know how the uncertainty felt.
Lots of love,
Carole xx
Genetic tests are performed on a sample of blood, hair, skin, amniotic fluid (the fluid that surrounds a fetus during pregnancy), or other tissue. The results of genetic tests are not always straightforward, which often makes them challenging to interpret and explain. A positive test result means that the laboratory found a change in a particular gene, chromosome, or protein of interest. Depending on the purpose of the test, this result may confirm a diagnosis, indicate that a person is a carrier of a particular genetic mutation, identify an increased risk of developing a disease (such as cancer) in the future, or suggest a need for further testing. A negative test result means that the laboratory did not find a change in the gene, chromosome, or protein under consideration. This result can indicate that a person is not affected by a particular disorder, is not a carrier of a specific genetic mutation, or does not have an increased risk of developing a certain disease. Hi just saw this post. So you may have had genetic counseling by now. Hope it went well. I have had genetic counseling and tested positive for brac 1. It hits hard. Just wondering did you have high grade ovarian cancer stage 1. That’s my sister cancer. She had three rounds of chemo. How many rounds did you have?
