Carboplatinum

Hi all. My daughter get carboplatinum every 4th week, for 3 days in a row. In June she suffered from hectic tummy cramps and had to get admitted. She got the chemo last week again, tummy was all good, but since sunday her appetite is not what it was and she looks tired. Can it be the build up of the chemo that is causing this? Other than that she runs around, very chatty, and loves playing with her brother

Hi You are on a site for ladies with Ovarian Cancer. You don't say what cancer your daughter is being treated for but you may want to pose your question elsewhere. Having said that I can tell you, however, that having had Carbo the appetite does diminish after a few days of receiving the Carbo and it causes fatigue. The appetite does return and the fatigue does diminish though will return after another course of treatment. I am so sorry your beautiful daughter is having to go through treatment at such a tender age. I cannot begin to imagine how you as a mum are feeling. The one thing though is that children I have found are a lot more resilient then us adults. I wish your daughter nothing but a long and happy life. Hugs to you both xx Kathy xx

Hi, I echo all that Katmal has said and wish you, your daughter & family all the luck in the world.

Have you/your daughter been assigned a Cancer Nurse Specialist (CNS)? Most chemo centres, in UK at least, are able to offer a person and phone number for any queries between treatments; I found mine an excellent reassurance, with helpful solutions to some problems, in moments of concern.

Warmest wishes to you all. Lesley

What a beautiful girl and such a happy smile despite her troubles xx

I wish her well with her treatment and recovery and hope you can find advise from other parents in a similar situation to you

As others have said the side effects your describing are very common with carboplatin and your beautiful girls taste may have altered too as the platinum based chemos do leave a metallic tast in your mouth which may not be helping her appetite x I found sweet things tasted awful but things like fish and tarty flavours such as lime were more palatable, maybe experiment with different flavours and see how that goes x

Good luck on your journey and sending big hugs xx

I wish you and your daughter well, I hope the treatment works and wont make her too ill. However perhaps you need a forum for Kidney Cancer or perhaps find a support group near your daughters hospital that you can link in to. all the best
