These past 3 weeks have went by so fast..April 19 had a series of ultrasounds for bladder issues..from there found a mass on my left ovary..my urologist sent me to gynecologist she has me scheduled for surgery May 25th..from there I went for an MRI where it is shown the mass has a blood flow, nodules, and solid matter. Hi I’m sorry you find yourself on this rollercoaster x

Initially everything does appear to be in a whirlwind but believe me you want them to act quickly if there’s even a suspicion of ovarian cancer x

It’s a frightening time for you and your family but there is lots of support for you on this forum and we can all try and answer your questions and keep your spirits up x

I hope everything goes well with your surgery and that you have a treatment plan soon as that generally makes you feel better, waiting for results is such an anxious time

Keep in touch and good luck with everything xx

Bev

Thanks for the reply. Reading on here has been helpful. My team has been amazing and moving fast which has been good and reassuring.

Hi there. I can only second what Bev said. Many of those masses are not malignant but your medical team might not know until the operation. If there's a possibility that the mass might be cancerous, they certainly don't want to give the wrong/premature message either.

That uncertainty was a killer for me. 'What do you mean you don't know until you open me up? All I want to know is whether this is cancer or not.' - 'Sorry. It could be, but we won't really know until surgery.' Grrrr.

One tip I've got is around the place for having surgery: If it's a smaller surgery like a look-around key hole op or a biopsy, and not much chance of malignancy, I guess that surgery could happen in any hospital. But if there is a suspicion of cancer and you hear words like 'explorative laparotomy', 'debulking' or 'debunking' surgery, that's where it matters. Such a big surgery should best take place in a certified gynecological cancer center (somewhere they've got loads of experience with it).. not a small regional/local hospital where they see a handful of cases a year.

Hang in there and try (hard, I know) not to worry too much before surgery. Once you know what it is and how to treat it, you're back in the command seat. Wish you well for surgery.

Thanks for your reply. The surgery I am scheduled for is a complete remove of my left ovary and tube. I'm hoping for more info next week. Trying not to stress and keep busy.

That's the right approach, but it is a difficult time.

Just wondering whether they did your CA 125 blood test? This might help to narrow down whether it's oncology or not. If in doubt, better they assume it is.

Very good advice from Maus123. Outcomes are better with ovarian if it's done by people who do it all the time in specialist centres.

Finally I had the reverse experience to you: a scan for ovarian picked up something going on in the bladder department - a fringe benefit of cancer, I guess.

Good luck and keep us posted. x

Hi there .i am in a similar position to you .am waiting on latest MRI report.we know I have a 5 cm mass on left overy .just waiting now to see gynaecolist and what he wants to do .also waiting to have ca125 blood test next week .so I know excactly how you feel..I can't say don't worry because that's a bit of a stupid comment.eveyone worries at what might be .its on our minds all the time .mine is solid as well but as my gynaecologist said nothing is 100 percent certain unless biopsy done .she did ask me a bit of a silly question " would I have the operation " well I said perhaps if you can tell me what your operating for first .i might be able to answer you " but for everyone who is going through it .try and stay as calm as you can as you will only raise your blood pressure .try and enjoy every day .let us know how you get on x

Thanks..yes don't worry is easier said then done. I had my CA125 done right after my ultra sound came back it was 36 which is close to 34 the "normal". Best of luck to you also.

Hi .the positive side is they have moved fast with it so whatever it is .the quicker it can be resolved.i was unfortunate that 6 months ago has a ct scan which showed mass sent to gynaecologist who did the TVUS said found nothing so did a ca125 which came back 8 so he signed me off.we moved and had different doctor .she was not happy I had no follow up ,so had another TVUS which showed up again but no bigger.had phone call from gynaecologist for meeting next day.she could not really say much until I had another test this time MRI plus blood test.next day was MRI .next Monday will have blood test.i did ask why last gynaecologist missed it and got the usual cover up excuse .they don't always find it .how they can miss a 5 cm solid mass is beyond me.so going from ok one minute to ovarian mass the next minute was a bolt out of the blue for the second time .so like you wait in anticipation .good luck and keep us posted.x
