Recurrence - PET v CT?

Hello all,

I was told 3 weeks ago that I was likely in recurrence enlarged nodes and a module under my diaphram. I was offered a pet scan as one option but as things were not too bad I decided to wait 2 months (big family holiday booked for Easter) then have another CT and decide from there.

Since then the enlarged nodes in my groin have got worse, the Lymphedima in my leg has got worse and I have the feeling my bowel is being restricted. I’m still managing to work but on the sofa the rest of the time.

Just wondering if any of you know the difference between a ct and a pet scan? I’m wondering if it will show up more of what is going on? The holiday is looking less likely by the day so may see if that’s still an option.

Any info would be very gratefully revived. I’m seeing my GP today.

Hi Lisa,

This question has been asked many times, just recently here - healthunlocked.com/ovacome/... - and there's a wealth of info on this forum. Personally, I prefer the PET and it's the only sort we get here in France for looking at cancer but it varies throughout the world. I hope you get some favourable results. Best wishes xxxx

Thanks Kryssy, I remember that thread now, funny how your brain turns to mush when you are not feeling great.

That's ok sweetie. I only said as you may not get many replies as it's been covered so recently and such a lot in the past and I didn't want you to feel missed out. Take care and fingers crossed for you xxxx

Hi Lisa,

I only had CT scans so not had to choose - why not ring Anna, the Support manager at Ovacome on their freephone helpline 0800 008 7054?

Sorry the hopes for the holiday are fading...can they just be 'tweaked' and not abandoned?

Warm wishes for as good a day as possible. Keep taking care,

Lesley

I hope so too Lesley, it’s a big disney/universal holiday for my who is 12, he’s been such a star through all the treatment. Thanks for the tip re Anna, i’ve not used it before so wouldn’t have thought of it.

Hi Lisa,

I can’t offer any advice on the scans, but I hope you can make your holiday. Are you going to Orlando? We’re off on 7 April for two weeks, and I can’t wait.

Hi Vicki, yes we are, I hope you have a wonderful time! I saw my GP today who thinks it’s just a case of getting good pain killers to get me there. All crossed! Have you been before, got any revommendations? X

The last time we went was 2006 (pre-kids!) and it has all changed! I joined a really good Facebook group and have picked up loads of tips through that. I’d be pretty clueless otherwise 😆

That sounds great! Will have to check it out.

I went to the GP today, now at Hospital just being admitted. It seems after a check for dvt I may have something pressing on the vein going into my leg causing swelling. It’s sounding less likely I need a scan to confirm it’s back!

Hopefully if they get this sorted Florida is still on the cards! 🤪

Hi Lisa

I believe the PET scan shows any ‘hot spots’ whereas the CT shows what’s there.

Hope you start to feel better.

Thanks Bev155, I appreciate your reply.
