I warned you that I would post this! I was very sensible at Burns night, mostly because we had to go to Cheshire for a retirement party - home now and a bit tired, but ok.
I saw my consultant on Friday, and there are still no changes on my scan, so I’m still stable! For the first time in 18 months I have a 4 week gap between hospital visits instead of 3! Funny how the little things seem so important. She also agreed that I could go skiing (with the proviso that that may change if I’ve got any progression evidence at my next consultation). I’m hunting for Insurance on Monday - ain’t nothin” gonna stop me now!!
I’ve read all today’s posts - welcome to new members, but I’m having a sleep on the sofa now.
Hope all is well with all. Best wishes, Ali xx

Hi Ali. good news may it continue for a very loooooooong time, enjoy the skiing, you know I've never seen snow I don't like the cold but in saying that our summer has been one of the hottest on record one day hitting 47c ( well over 100f ) but there is always air conditioners.
Crikey it’s warm there Lorraine, it’s weird to me in the chilly UK that you’ve never seen snow but I can nearly imagine being in such heat, it was a very hot 94f when we were in New York last July so your 100f sounds very 😅. Hope you’re not too uncomfortable and like you say thank goodness for air con. ❤️Xx
Woo hoo! Excellent scan result and you’re right it is the small things that matter, after all lots of small things can add up to a big thing so keep up the good work.
I’ve never been ⛷, I don’t have the knees for it, I hope you get there and really enjoy it.
I’ve used insurewith for my holiday insurance since diagnosis, they’re very thorough and ask the right questions and don’t cost the earth either, some quotes were just 😝. Happy insurance hunting.
Keep as well as you possibly can be ❤️Xx Jane
HI Ali, that sounds like the words of a song, nothing is gonna stop me now. Well done you and book your holiday, best of luck with the insurance and most of all enjoy the break
Thank to all for lovely supportive responses - it really helps.
Three jobs today - generate a list of ailments for the insurance folk; sit an watch the birds for an hour for the Great British bird 🦆 watch and knit a scarf for my friend.
Good for you Ali. It’s so lovely to have the freedom to do the normal things that others do all the time without a thought , like planning a holiday and searching for travel insurance . Have a wonderful holiday and may the benefits last for a long long time. Take care
Glad your Burns night went well. Mine was quite subdued in the end despite all the initial excitement about his capture in the highlands under such inclement conditions, as I wasn't feeling in an eating mood, consequently not in a cooking mood either. We did go ahead and played various bagpipe music followed by folk music in general, but I was early to my bed (I believe I had food poisoning on Sunday and and my efforts with imodium meant I soon had to resort to Senokot, and then back to imodium until finally leaving all tablets alone. This always happens with me even though I only ever take half the stated dose. Made me feel not my best at all, all week. There's always next year. We should consider hiring a YHA (Young at Heart and Active) in a central UK location and putting on our own show for any of us who can make it.
So envious of the ski-ing trip. I'd like to go x-country but I know I haven't the energy right now. Still toying with the idea even if it's just to be in a snow mountainous environment. I'm thinking I could try snow-shoeing and long lunches.....but it's trying to fit it in with the chemo.
Try Eurotunnel insurance, they only cover Europe but you do not need to be travelling with them, they also cover Winter Sports. The only conditions are your doctor will need to confirm in the event of a claim that at the time of booking / taking out insurance :
you were fit to travel;
your medical condition(s) were stable and there was no sign they would get worse
you had not been diagnosed as suffering from a terminal illness
you did not know that you would need medical treatment or consultation at any medical facility during your journey;
Other than that, they don't need to know anything else, not even your diagnosis, whether you're currently undergoing treatment, etc. etc.
Helen
PS. I've not actually tried to make a claim. But it seems to me with so few questions, it would be difficult for them to fall back on the, "you didn't accurately answer our questions," as I've found that with some insurers some of their questions are a little ambiguous in my circumstances and so consequently maybe my answers. I've insured my forthcoming Gozo trip with them and also my "driving-on-the-right," adventure last year.
Lovely to have a bit of freedom from Hospital visits! Enjoy the skiiing, I’ve been twice since diagnosis and it was so wonderful to be in the mountains again, I didn’t go mad but managed to ski every day. 2nd time I couldn’t get insurance to cover the cancer but got everything else covered (fortunately didn’t need it!) with JustTravelCover. Have fun!
