Burying my head in the sand.

So 5 months after finishing treatment for first recurrence I am generally well. Having said that the last week I have had in and off abdominal pain and some diarrhoea although this is not constant. I’ve had quite a nasty cold for the last few weeks and I’m trying to convince myself that this is just the remnants of whatever virus I’ve picked up. (I work in a school and there have been quite a lot of bugs around.) Am I in denial do you think? The irrational part of me obviously thinks the worse!

No you’re not worrying too much. It’s only a few months since you finished treatment and your immune system is still rebuilding. I think it’s fair to say that many of us feel anxious about any symptoms. I worked in a school and really know what it’s like to be surrounded by bugs. Heaven knows how many times a day I washed my hands! But if you are concerned, it’s a good idea to see your gap or contact your cns to put your mind at rest. Your feelings and reactions are normal for our normal. Let us know how you go. All the best Jo 🌺🌼🌻🌹🌸

Hi there, maybe you need an antibiotic to clear up the cold, it might be a sinus infection. Your immune system is probably not right yet so perhaps it would be better to see your gp. All the best to you

Sorry you have this worry, Becky. I hope you feel better soon. Do you have a bottle of hand sterilising gel you could keep at school? It's pretty cheap and shops like Saver and Superdrug have it. Other than that, I can only echo what Jo and Suzuki have said. Love, Solange 😊

Hi Becky.

This may sound a bit daft and a bit yucky but with a cold the snotty stuff does drip down the back of your throat and gets into your digestive system. This could be the cause of the problem you are having. But, as the girls say, get it checked out for peace of mind. You could try some probiotics and vitamin C. This may help too. Al the best . It wouldn’t hurt to bring your six-month appointment forward a few weeks, if you can. I’ve never had a cold before that has caused abdominal pains or diarrhoea but it is all too easy to imagine the worst at every little twinge / pain once we’ve had this diagnosis when usually there’s a simple explanation.

I don’t envy you working in a school during the season of colds and flu.

All the best!

Maybe give your cns a call? My team have always stressed that if there are any concerns in between times to get in touch...

About 2 years post treatment I had some bouts of cramping / colicky type pains ands did just that. My CNS was able to give me a clear plan, which was reassuring. They were investigated and seemed likely to be adhesions with recurrance ruled out.... Sx

There are so many things for your body to try and re-sync after treatment it's little wonder you feel unwell. A cold or anything else that you would normally take in your stride will knock you back. That feeling of is it back is always in the back of your mind. Why not pop in and see your GP for some reassurance and maybe a blood test. My thyroid stopped working post chemo and I'm now on thyroxine and have been for five years.

I agree with everything the others have said about seeing your GP etc.

I find black elderberry syrup a great supplement at this time of year, I get Sambucol sugar free immuno forte. It can only help to shift the virus and tastes delicious too
