CA 125 confused!

I went to the Doctors with pelvic pain that I had been having for 3 months, it's since gone. So I was given a CA-125 test it came back at 200 I was on the first day of my period. So 2 weeks later mid cycle I had it again it was 74. I had a clear vaginal ultrasound. Has the test again 3 days after my period thus time 103. I asked the doctor if I could do the test again and he said no point, there is a problem and by keep doing thus test was going to show us nothing new! I'm having a CT scan. I'm just so scared by the Ca125. Any reassurance would be appreciated as I'm feeling really anxious right now and I'm convinced I have cancer.

Hi there's some good info here on ca125.... targetovariancancer.org.uk/...

As you'll see, ca125 can also be raised due to hormones during the menstrual cycle, endometriosis etc. It's just a tool (a useful one mind!) but one which is not definitive by any means....

Your doctor is following protocol by ordering an ultra sound scan which is really good and hopefully this will be reassuring. If there is an issue, finding out sooner is so much the better...

Very best wishes, Sx

Thank you, I just can't get my head around it all! My gynecologist thinks I have endometriosis but I'm not convinced I have read so much and now I think it's something more sinister. The doctor I spoke to on the phone wasn't particularly nice either! I have no other symptoms apart from pelvic pain and that has gone. Now I'm looking up other things and driving myself crazy. Many thanks Laura.x

It's really natural Laura to think the worst and waiting for tests and results is really difficult too.... Endometriosis is common and you can have it without the 'usual symptoms. I found out that I had quite extensive endometriosis when I was late 30s but had no symptoms whatsoever. It can often be responsible for higher ca125 results.

Your doctor seems to be very proactive so do try not to cause yourself uneccessary distress.... Best wishes x
