I gained tons of weight on chemo (the eating didn't help either) I thought I'd lose weight and was surprised to gain nearly 2 kilos every week. xx

Oh Zena. Do you really think it's ascites? I'm big at the moment because I'm full of crap, literally. Maybe it's the same for you and there's no need to worry. I do hope so. Before my gluten problem was diagnosed I blew up if I had a piece of bread. Still do with gluten free bread so have put it down to yeast. Let us know if it's confirmed but fingers crossed it's ok. Hi Zena,

Try not to be too disheartened. If it is ascites, hopefully it will start to subside very soon. I never had any drains, and after my 1st round of chemo, I started to notice an improvement in the ascites just before my 2nd round. I was seriously huge and wearing maternity trousers before chemo.

Would you be able to have it drained if you needed to?

I never had ascites even at diagnosis 3C. Does anyone know if that's good or bad? Does it mean as a BRCA1 patient my body simply does not recognise its sick???!!!

Sorry can't answer your question .

It was the ascities that took me to A&E so although horrendous the only reason I found out I had OC but as many women diagnosed was already stage 4 .

( Am high grade serous )

I don't have much to talk about - just a small amount which hardly registered on the scan. Still got cancer in lots of places though. I don't think it's an indication of how good or bad you are to be honest as everyone has varying stories to tell. If my cancer could be "drained out" then I'd be happy, but of course it doesn't work like that and we all have to suffer. I'm sorry that those of you with bad ascites go through so much. I hope you can get some relief from the draining process, although it sounds quite Dickensian. Glad I don't have to go through it. Wimpy me. xxxxx

Hi

Hope they are able to make you more comfortable . I had ascities on diagnosis got so bad over 3 days looked 9 months pregnant and couldn't lie down or eat . So awful so really feel for you . Mine was drained initially on diagnosis ( instant relief ! ) and then about 5 weeks later ( as it had built up again) the weekend before I started chemo as I was so uncomfortable. The chemo usually stops the ascities building up again .

Hope they get you sorted . Sending a big hug . Love and best wishes Kim x

Hi Zena

Just to say that my mum's ascites came back after 2 cycles of chemo carbo/taxel even though her CA125 was dropping. It was difficult as she had Lymphdema aswell so we weren't sure if it was ascites or Lymphdema but when the ascites started coming back, my mum knew instinctively the difference. After seeing the consultant, they told us she had a mixed response to the chemo. Some sites responded to the carbo/taxel combination and some did not. But not to worry as the consultant will come up with a further combination of chemo for you to try that will hopefully work. I know it's disheartening, you wait so long for chemo and then go through all that suffering with little to/ no gain but rest assured that you're not the only person where the ascites comes back and the consultants'/ MDT will come up with a plan based on how the oc is reacting.

Best wishes

Oh dear, sorry. Was hoping it wasn't that but a lot of the girls here say not to get too upset. I hope you are not going to get you down.

I'm ok. Out Friday or Monday. Onc came to see me and he's changing the formula. He say neuropathy normally not come two days after first chemo but then he say I'm not normal, well my cancer isn't. Flipping cheeky so and so. He'll be able to eat solid food in a week or so.... :-)

Chin up sweetie. Just a blip and with us all with you it will be ok in the end.

Love and hugs Kryssy xxx

Hi ya, So pleased it's over and sorry it hurt so much and you cried. So early on and you are suffering so much. It's not fair. You are young with a little one to care for. It should not happen to you. This time next year all this sh*t will be a blur - or we could be millionaires, as they say. I'll take the cure and leave the money thanks.

I'm home tomorrow - hooray - with dead fingers but smaller lumps so giving with one hand and taking away with another. I think the nurses will be pleased to see me go as every day is a crisis and I have to ring the emergency bell or go cap in hand to the nurses room. Today my table tipped and whole jug and glass of water went down onto the floor. It was like a tsunami. I virtually had to breast stroke to the bell. Unfortunately nurse Rachett was on duty and she had already shouted at me when I asked for another bottle of water (doc said I must not drink tap water). "Take it from the tap", she barked. So when I had to ring the bell about half an hour later she probably thought I was still asking for water so ignored me. In the end I had to mop it up with a hospital towel. On my hands and knees, under the bed, beside the bed, up the flipping wall too. Just as I was finishing the night nurse came in and went mad at me (but in a nice way). Asked why I hadn't rung the bell earlier. Said I had. I've written out a note in french to nurse Rachett saying she should give up nursing and find a job in a lighthouse as she obviously doesn't like people. I shall give it to her tomorrow just two seconds before I run (i.e. shuffle quickly) for the lift. I will!!

Night night sweetie and sweet dreams. Love and hugs Kryssy xxx

Zena--so sorry it came back....it should behave! If there is a silver lining, maybe it is that it is telling your team what is and is not working. But no more suffering...thinking of you and hoping they can take it away quickly.

Kryssy if you read this--you POOR THING! I never understood how nurses can be anything less that compassionate with us but when one of my IVs came out, and the blood was going onto the floor at the hospital, I rang and they were slow coming and I kept ringing they better come and FINALLY when they did, they asked me why I did that !!!!!!!! I had to explain it was an accident (rolling my eyes when they weren't looking). Really? Why did I do that?

I guess we have to hope nurse Ratchet if off duty when we're in!

Kryssy profile image
Kryssyβ€’ in reply toMaxjor

Hi Maxjor. Nurse R still about. She's just been in, fannied about, ignored me, stormed out and left the door open. She always leaves the bloody door open. I'm freezing in the air conditioning but I've turned it off in my room but with the door open a gale force icy blast whistles up my nether regions something chronic. Got to go close it now.

My friend, Fred, my shadow for the last 6 days, has just been uncoupled from me. I feel as if I have lost a limb as I can walk without him. He was a bit of a drip, with bags under his eyes, but he was 'armless enough. Great to talk to as he just listened - and I talk a lot... Now I must wait for the ambulance/taxi to take me home. It will be 2.30 as France closes for lunch. I'm ready now !!!

ZENA - are you feeling better today sweetie?

Over and out peeps.

Just going up to wake the snoring beast. He'll not be happy as he doesn't do mornings very well. I've just ordered some body art tattoos and pens from eBay. They are coming from China, naturally, so you'll have to wait a while to see my tattooed head. Hair still sticking in there but seems to be coming out slowly. Got to hang on until Monday as got a function to go to. Bet it all falls out Sunday night. Can't wait to start painting my head. I think it should catch on. Hubby hasn't yet come around to the idea of writing something on it - but he will.

The things we old people can get away with. You'll have to wait a good few more years before you can be daft. AND YOU'LL GET THERE - I PROMISE !!!!!

Have a great day.

Love and hugs Kryssy xxxx
