I have noticed that the ability to reply to the thread about survival rates has been removed. Why is this- this question to the moderator(s). Is a lively discussion with differing views not welcome?
If threads are going to be stopped like this can we have an explanation please.

Sorry, I hadn't seen that until you pointed it out. Maybe because the discussion got a bit lively (I've only just read the posts where there was some disagreement). I haven't seen a post closed down like that before I thought maybe the original posted had decided to remove it. xx Kathy xxx
We haven't removed any of the content of that thread, but we turned off replying as the tone of some of the replies was inappropriate and causing upset, and it was causing the focus of the long thread to shift.
Should this situation occur again, we will first reply within the thread to explain why it's being closed. We're sorry for any upset caused.
If anyone wants to start a new thread to continue the main topic under discussion - statistics and survival rates - that would be most welcome. We are sorry for the inconvenience this causes.
Thanks for the reply. I was fully aware that it could still be seen and said so in my posts.
The fact that you will first put a reason before you close a thread is welcomed.
For your information I was not "upset" just concerned that censorship was rearing its ugly head. I just hope when threads get lively you do not label them all as inappropriate.
The topic itself is a good one; indeed unfortunate that some replies were offensive. Thanks for agreeing to give a reason if a post is closed in future.
This thread has also been locked but with no explantion, even though I can see someone took being "smutty" a little too far. A head of the topic explanantion would be a very good idea as I wanted to offer a response but can't.
Each of the forums on HU is moderated by a charity/organisation. They will have their own rules & guidance and are able to close a thread to comments. You've posted in a forum for people affected by Ovarian Cancer.
You can either contact HU directly- info in Help or contact the moderators within the forum where you have concerns, suggestions or need clarification.
Difficult to know what offends some people; sometimes think its the language not the topic....but glad to know debate is not being silenced...and sometimes whether you take offence or not , depends which side you're on!
Agree that it often is the way it is said. I prefer direct exchange of views but realise that many prefer a softer exchange. My view is that offence is too easily taken but that maybe because I am naturally a blunt person.
Anyway good result that explanations will be given and the topic can be pursued if people wish.
Hi Fay, the first word that has come out of my mouth for many years has to be sorry. Oh sorry if that offends you, sorry if I have up set you, sorry if I got in your way so really what I have been saying all my life is. SORRY I AM A LIVE!!!
There are times we will pis* others off but now with cancer & maybe with not so many more years on this earth I don't care & hardly ever say sorry now. I am not rude just not going to apologise for being me & if I want to say something I just say it now.
I'm a pretty direct person but have to be honest was totally shocked at how aggressive some of the comments were. Debate and free speech is great but I don't think rudeness or aggressive behaviours have a place on here. I'm pleased that the topics aren't closed off as we all need to be able to participate in the discussions we choose to and just ignore the ones we want to avoid xo
