Hi Nikki,

I had to have a lung drained last year. I was actually on chemo at the time, but it had stopped working. They do a ultrasound scan to check where the drain should go in, and mark it, then give you a local to insert the drain. You then have to lay flat to drain the lung. I hope things are not too bad for you. I went into A&E and was admitted as I couldn't breathe at all.

Good luck

Hi Nikki

I have just recently had a lung drained, not being able to breathe is pretty scarry. Once the drain is in you will feel better. Hope things go OK. Luv Jean

I had a chest drain before I had my hysterectomy last year. It was painful even with a local and they drained off about a litre of fluid and tested for cancer cells so I was diagnosed as Stage 4. I still have a small pleural effusion but its not interfering with my breathing.

I recently had some breathing problems so had to be checked out for a pulmonary embolism which can be a complication of OC and surgery. However the result was negative and thankfully I didn't have a clot.

thank you for all your advice. I have had the pleural effusion and they did a procedure of trying to glue the lung and bag together wso it dosent happen again but only 50% chance of it not coming adrift. I unfortunately have pulmonary embolisms but have injection of clexane every day to prevent clots. Seeing Onc on friday as there is some activity again, wish he was a bit more positive love and hugs to everyonexx
