After chemo what next
Im in contact with a lady in Canada who had surgery, chemo and then 25 radiation sessions. She is doing well one year on. I did ask my oncologist about radiation but it seems the UK didn't do much research on it and subsequently doesn't have much detail on the benefits whilst Canada has more belief in it.
I'd have it if it's offered -. I think you said it's your daughter with cancer isn't it?

Hiya
Just thought it might be useful to know that radiotherapy is being encouraged in the UK now because it is seen to be one of the reasons we lag behind other countries on survival rates for some cancers. I was told this when I went on a visit to Ipswich Hospital radio therapy unit and they can do some rather clever stuff with it too xx
Thanks for your response π Always nice to hear something positive
This is interesting - I thought they didn't tend to use it in ovarian cancer because it can be scattered all over the place and not easy to target with radiotherapy?
Thats what the early results said but Canada has carried on with its research in a more focused man er .I think the UK just trilled ovarian cancer which could be anywhere and any type. In .canada I know it's also used for cear cell 1C too.
I spoke to my oncologist last year about it and it was "Poo poohed ". Still I can't change things now, good to hear it's being taken seriously now.

A friend of mine in Kentucky has just finished chemo and is starting radiotherapy, so maybe it's a North American 'thing'.

My friend's sister had radiotherapy in Glasgow nearly 50 years ago now and survived.
When I was patient rep for SIGN (ovarian cancer guidelines in Scotland) the scientist on the panel was talking about it .
So who knows?
Take care xx
I asked the Clinical Director of my cancer centre about radiotherapy and he told me its not effective for ovarian cancer and that's why its not offered. Be interested to hear otherwise.
