Will my mum ever feel better

My mum was so ill over the summer with feeling sick loss of appetite tiredness she pretty much had every symptom there is including blood clots. The doctors said now that's she been diagnosed and has started chemo and has had ascites drained that she will start to feel better. I'm just wondering if she actually will.

Hi Frozen38

the majority do have a good response to first line chemo...so that should help her feel a bit better. Of course chemo itself can make you feel rubbish but every three weeks you get what they call 'recovery week' when your system gets itself back together before they poison you again..I really loved those weeks!

When I think how ill I was during the summer of 2015...if your Mum is anything like me she will gradually feel the benefit..maybe not quite the same as before but still good. It's early days but cancer isn't chicken pox ...you don't wake up one morning and it's gone. Have patience and be ready to celebrate good days when they come xx

I'd say she should start to feel better - my onc said that the effects of chemo are cumulative, so initially you start to feel better as the cancer and symptoms recede and before the chemo side effects hit. That was the case for me anyway, and in between chemist there were times I forgot I was ill.

A definite roller coaster ride. Enjoy the good days and offer comfort in the bad days.

Hello. I started to feel better after a few rounds of chemo, as the tumours began to shrink, and then I had several years of being fine before I needed more treatment. No-one can be sure what will happen to many individual and you haven't given us much detail, but Inwould say there is a fair chance that, yes, she will feel much better, apart from the few das when the chemo side effects are at their worst. And I've found my lovely daughters a great help in getting me through those times.

Thanks Lesley. My mum has ppc she's just started chemo and is to have surgery then more chemo. She lost her appetite and had lots of ascites and a pleural effusion. I've noticed that she has started to eat a bit better and since all the fluid was drained she feels a bit better.
