Back pain when standing still.

Hello Ladies,

Finished carbo/taxol two months ago. I'm now suffering with back pain when I stand still for awhile. The only way to relieve the pain is to go for a walk or sit down with my feet up. Spoke to my cns who advised I should take ibuprofen regular. That doesn't work. Is there anyone else out there had this problem after chemo? I'm stage 4 and not letting the bugger get me down.😁😁😁

Hi Sue

No I didn't have pain like this after chemo but I do have ongoing joint pain due to another condition. There are better pain killers like naproxen which are not so harsh on your stomach..so do ask for something else. I would also press your Onc team for an explanation ...if it's nothing they've done then maybe it's to do with weakened core strength? They should be able to refer you for physio. Either way..keep pushing, don't accept it!

Keep well! Lyndall

Thank you for your response. I will speak to my GP regarding the naproxen. If that doesn't help, then I'll contact oncology.

I finished Avastin in October had joint pain which is now worse. I had mri which showed inflamation and xrays show mineral loss so must get a dexa bone scan. I have also started on the Naproxen and getting physio at the moment. I am told that its normal wear and tear and is normal for my age but seem to have a trapped nerve as well. I use hot and cold packs. Hope that information helps a bit

Sue,

The only thing I can add apart from the help from GP/other medics is a pilates class if you can find one, plus a good firm bed. I had a weak back for years before my OC and had found both these helped. Since the chemos (21-day carbo + taxol in 2011 and then 7-day 'dose-dense' carbo + taxol + avastin in 2013) I find standing very very tiring and always look for somewhere to sit down. At home, I always sit with my feet up too. I still do pilates and find a firm bed vital.

All the best, Lesley

I have 1 more chemo left and struggle with back ache when walking or standing for a while. I put this down to surgery recovery, but it did come about once the chemo had restarted.

Iv made an appt to see physio to try and strengthen my muscles, I'm hoping this helps.

When the pain starts I rest on the sofa with a hot water bottle, that seams to alleviate the pain.

I'm still taking oxycodone 4 times a day to help, I couldn't manage without it. Definitely see your GP about pain relief to help you.

Thinking of you, xx

I could be wrong but maybe it's weakened back and stomach muscles? I've lost a lot of core strength from the lack of activity after surgery and chemo. Only now getting it back. I'm suggesting this partly because I slipped a disc years ago and then had constant trouble with my back until I took up archery which has strengthened my back muscles. The back problems then stopped. The pilates sounds like a good idea.

Take care with naproxen-I find it harder on my stomach than ibuprofen. I take ranitidine with it.

Hope you find a solution and feel better soon-keep fighting!

love
