Blood blister after surgery

About 4.5 weeks after abdominal surgery, wound looked almost healed, then what looks like a blood blister has appeared. Oozing some blood and dark surrounding but no pain or warmth. Anyone else have this, and should I get it checked urgently?

Get it checked, that doesnt sound right and its best to be sure. Are you also having chemo as that can interrupt healing. Hope youre ok

HI KitKat 29 sorry to hear you are unwell,  now you are still probably bruised inside after surgery but I think you should see you gp or your gynae team to get this look at just in case.  It may well be nothing to worry about but it might be the start of an infection.

Thanks for your advice. I would be surprised if it is infection as I have been on antibiotics up until Friday and haven't started chemo yet. I am waiting on a visit from the district nurse so hopefully she can shed some light x

Hiya

I think I had something similar..the wound looked healed but then opened up again and it was another few weeks before it closed properly. No infection just really sloooow healing. I would ask your onc or GP to check it xxx

You need high supplement vit C, zinc & carotene plus plenty of veg & fish protein. Only complex carbs, none of the rubbish - fills u up with none of the benefits.

My laparoscopy wound barely healed before major surgery, my practice nurse put another dressing on as she thought it had been removed too soon! Don't pull on wound lifting or raising arms too suddenly.

It was not infected either, just constantly dripping so my immune system was not not compromised(that came later! Hah!)

I think you should get it checked out. At least a phone call to your helpline or oncology team but it sounds as though someone needs to have a look.

Well as it was the weekend I called the 111 service to see an out of hours doctor and 6 hours later they sent me round a district nurse. What use that was!!! All she did was re-dress and gave me no guidance-just that I should see a doctor. Well that didn't help me...so once again another night up a&e...doctor wasn't even going to look at wound and tried to send me packing with antibiotics. I pulled the dressing off myself and made him look!! Shocking service!! I have an appointment at gyne assessment unit today...hopefully will shed more light. Looks like it might be over granulated tissue!!

Hi. I'd recommend seeing your doctor. I had a similar bubble, but my wound in that area was a little red, warm n a little sore. The oncologist nurse said to mark the area n see if it increased in size. Saw my GP n she put me on antibiotics. Within a few days I had a scheduled appointment with my oncologist. He put me on another antibiotic for wound infection at 1gr a day for 14 days. At this stage I wouldn't let him touch it as it was too sore. The antibiotics worked well n I had my next chemo on time. Hope all goes well for you.
