Hello ladies. I think this sounds like a silly question but I was just wondering if you have a cancer that is spread to a different part of the body like the kidney or stomach do you start experiencing symptoms or side effects as if the cancer at begun in that part of the body? Don't know if this question is phrased clear enough.

Hi there have you had scans and bloods etc, Maybe go and speak with your Oncology team they would have all your results and can explain better if anything you maybe experiencing at the moment is connected to your illness.

Hi yes sort of , my Cancer at 1st recurrence is in my duodenum and I had some issues with getting food down and integestion , it's oc that's travelled to that part of my body. Maybe ask onc if you need advice on symptoms . Good luck . Jue

I don't know but mine came back after first line on my sternum and didn't cause much pain but became a visible lump and eventually started aching.

.

Hi Venessa. When mine returned, it'd travelled to my liver & left breast. I was alerted to the return by a swollen lymph node in my groin. I had no pain whatsoever from any site. I was worried, especially about the liver. But my onc reassured me that the cancer was ON the liver, not IN the liver. I've now been in remission again for almost a year (on the Avastin trial). Best wishes - Pauline

Pauline. Just wondering what kind of cancer you had. Mom has endometrial but strangely ski has breast which they say could. It spread and must be a second primary.

Hi there ..

Ovarian can travel like other cancers though this is very unlikely overall. It almost always grows within the abdomen, though the mostly likely spread is to the lung. Spread elsewhere in the body is unusual. Those women who have specific mutations may develop other growths say, the breast, but these are not considered to be metastatic cancer. They're classed as second primaries and can have different treatment protocols. I'm not saying Ovarian can't travel and seed. I'm just saying it's not usual.

The cells need to have suitable ground to seed and other parts of the body aren't particularly suitable ground. This theory seen in practice is called 'soil and seed' I'm told.

Someone here will put me right if I'm wrong.

If primary cancer travels to other organs, it produces symptoms as if it's a primary though there won't necessarily be any symptoms. It depends on where it is. Liver cancer in itself isn't painful as the liver isn't so sensitive to pain. However, the effects of having it there has an effect on other areas of the body.

My doctor said that chemo mops up cancer wherever it is. That's why it's given into the vein. To make sure the treatment gets to where it's needed I mean.

Sending love and hugs to all here. Xxx

Thanks Tina. That explanation was very helpful and clear. Sounds like if you have two primary's whatever chemo you use should work for both?
