It's back after 6 months Cancer Free - 2nd line treatment lined up next week....

So mum was diagnosed at stage 4 we all knew the likelihood of it coming back again in the future, however we didn't expect so soon.

It has come back on her liver 5-6 months after being off treatment. They are starting mum on Carbo/Caylex which I have read seems quite common for 2nd line treatment.

Does anyone have any advice I can give my mum? They mentioned her hair shouldn't fall out which is good as mum is loving her thick hair growing back... It used to be thin but it has grown back super thick. :)

They did tell us that they won't operate as it is specks all over her liver and not confined to one area.

We are hoping after this spout of chemo she can get another cancer free period which hopefully will be longer than the 5-6 months she has already had.

The chemo mum had the first time of carbo/taxol worked really well whilst she was on it as her tumour was huge and it shrunk it right down and they classified her as NED after her treatment. Fingers crossed she reacts well to this combination and hopefully it knocks the cancer back harder this time so she can enjoy time being off treatment.

I know it is likely going to keep coming back, however we hope she can have longer inbetween this time.

I hope you are all keeping well.

Thank you xxx

I also hope this treatment will give your Mum a longer remission. It is hard facing into it again but you never know the outcome this time after treatment may be much better.

Thanks Suzuki, I do hope so. You never know maybe we will be presently surprised with a longer remission than the one she has just had. I hope you are keeping well. Thanks for always replying xxx

I was stage 4 and had the carbo/taxol first time with a year long break. I've just had no 5 of carbo/caleyx. Coped ok on it.Very tired and skin problems but no noticeable hair loss on my head. I have very thick hair too so she should be fine.

Tell your mum to get soft bras with no underwire as the dry skin seems to appear on the bra line. I used utterly cream that you can buy on Amazon. It is very good. Skin can get very dry and itchy but this does help.

Thanks Julie,

Did you find this combo any easier than carbo/taxol? Mum had that first time around which was tough, but think it didn't help with the massive op inbetween. This time they are not operating. Where has yours come back?

Is the cream called Udderly Smooth chamois Cream? I'm going to order her some this week so she has it ready for her first cycle on Thursday. Thanks so much.

It's seems this combo of treatment is quite common for reoccurance and so many others they can try! This forum is so good hearing other people's stories as it isn't always as dark and gloomy as it seems. Take care I hope you have another long remission xx

It's a different regime and I have struggled a bit with it. It's been exhausting. Takes me a little bit longer to get back on my feet whereas I had a routine on the taxol combo. There are some people who coped really well. Hopefully your mum is one of them.

I ordered the udderly smooth body cream and also the tube. If the itching gets too much they can give antihistamines. I do try and follow the advice and stay off my feet for a few days to avoid skin breaking.

The good news is that it's working and has brought my ca125 back down to normal levels.

Mine came back with spots on my stomach and glands but thankfully under control again.

I'm starting a trial for a parp inhibitor so hopefully I get a break from chemo for a while.
