Hi all,
I was due to go in for chemo today but they refused as my white cell count is too low. I'm being retested on Monday, hopefully.
Any advice on how to raise it???
Thanks Asma x

Asma. Unfortunately there is nothing you can eat or drink to help raise the White Cells, it is a side effect that some of us had to cope with. However, sometimes the Ocn will prescribe a course of injections, 24 hours after chemo and after each cycle, to counter-act a certain type of low white cell count. You could ask your Liaison Nurse for advice.
But with rest and a short deferment from the usual chemo routine, it does resolve.
Take care. Daisies
I agree with Daisies, rest really should bring the whitel cells back up and if not, ask about getting injections to help. This has been described as a roller coaster experience so you do get ups and downs/
I had the same problem and had a look on line. There were suggestions to try green tea and take vitamin B. I did both and didn't have the white cell problem again. It may have been a coincidence!!
Hi Asma,
My white cells were always borderline and injections and green tea always just got me there, Definately mention the injections
Best wishes xxx
Hi Asma....I had a low white count as well and had to miss one of my 18 treatments early on. I had an injection of neupogen which brought the count back into normal range. I was afraid it would happen again , so I asked my doctor if I could have the injections prophylactically. He agreed, and from then on, I had my chemo on Wednesdays, then a neupogen injection every Thursday and Friday. I never had to miss another treatment again. I hope you can iron this out. Wish I had known about the green tea at the time. I would have tried that, too.
I wish you the best of luck with your treatment.........Judy
thanks ladies,
I have enquired about the injection but as I have only 2 cycles of chemo left they don't think its a good idea. I have been drinking loads of Green tea so fingers crossed for tomorrow x
Hi, Sorry to hear of your delay due to WBC count. I too was delayed during my treatment due to this. The first time but happened I ended up with 8 weeks between chemo instead of 3. When I was given chemo again, they reduced the strength, TTY his allowed me to get another 2 and then it happened again! The first time I tried everything, drank cranberry juice, beetroot juice but nothing seemed to help. Iwas told by another patient to drink green tea if it should happen again. When it did, i took her advice and lo and behold it was at an acceptable level for chemo to proceed the he following week. Give it a try, you've nothing to lose! Ann x
Had loads of green tea and it was up to 2.6 had my chemo yesterday 😊
