Curious if anyone wrote thank you notes to their friends or support system after cancer? How do you think these people who are so supportive during some of the most difficult times in our life

Hi Sibby

I took in a card and presents for the hospital staff who looked after me. I hadn't thought of a card for friends and family but the companionship we had over the tough months brought us closer together so perhaps we shared what we were feeling by talking rather than through any other way.

It does seem to be a time when we remember to say thanks to our nearest and dearest and tell them how much we value them. I guess that's one of the plusses of working through this disease.

I thank my friends all the time for their thoughts and kind deeds I really didn't know just how many friends I had until this disease struck me. So I do appreciate them so much as they are always in contact and when I am well they take me out in turns for little treats. I would never have got this far without this network as I dont have any other support from THE SO CALLED CARING PROFESSION. They have continually let me down. Apparently because I can walk I don't fit the criterea for the District Nurse to flush drain - neither will nurses do it at surgery. So this necessitates a trip to local hospital every week. ~When I need urgent medication they let me down on that score too. So generally not a happy bunny with them. Hope everyone else has a better relationship with the PROFESSIONALS than I do.

Complain about district nurses and request that one is trained to perform task. I did this with my muM many years ago and eventually they trained someone as this is a task you should be able to have done at the surgery not have to go to hospital.

Ask your local health board to sort it out

I had a party at home for all the friends who had supported me through chemo! It was a really lovely evening surrounded by all the people who mean the most to me.

I haven't done this for cancer as it's ongoing. We did have a party for friends who supported us when I and my partner both broke our left arms within 4 days of each other. It was wonderful just to go through the list of people who had helped - gave me a warm and loving feeling. And it was good to see them all together and getting on - even those who hadn't met before. So I think it's a very good idea to thank people in some way.
