Hi, I had surgery July 2013. I ended up with an infection and due to all the antibiotics I lost 2 stone. The antibiotics caused thrush of the mouth which made eating not only painful but actually put me off food for a few weeks, so just increased my fluid intake. I needed special dressings, sorbason I believe as the infection had caused a small hole at the bottom of the wound. I by passed my doctors and went back to the ward I was on. They sorted me out and gave me a list of what my doctors needed to be giving me in order to sort the problem out.

Hi Jackie. I lost weight after my op. I think it was a combination of a couple of things . You mentioned your wound is infected. Did this happen immediately after surgery? You need to get it looked at straight away. Call your gp and insist he sees you if not call hospital you should have the name of the surgeon who operated (he should have a team you can contact). All the beat for a speedy recovery xxx trish

Hi Jackie

I lost weight but soon put it back on with a bit more too! I also had an infection. I went to A and E when a huge amount of pus oozed from the wound. They put me on antibiotics immediately. You should seek help as soon as possible.

I hope you will make a speedy recovery.

Best wishes, Millie xx

If your wound is infected you may need antibiotics, this happened to me and I had to go back to hospital and get sorted, GP not know whats what in my case and gave me oral antibiotics, ended up on a drip etc. I also lost weight after op. took a while to get my appetite back. hope you feeling better soon .

Hi, I lost weight after my op, I suppose this was to be expected as all the fluid had gone plus the weight of the tumours on both ovaries. However once treatment started I put weight back on plus some lol. I blame the steroids for that.

Contact your surgeons secretary. You need your wound looked at, swabbed etc yo ensure that the antibiotics you are on are the right ones and not resistant to the infection. Hope you get this sorted. Ann xo

Thanks,GP refused to come out, sent a nurse who reported back to him, then he prescribed penicillan which I have been on since last Wed. Swob taken proved negative.am still concerned re discharge from wound which is over my stomach, obvious delays to my chemo which really should start soon x

Hi Jackie

After my infection cleared my wound oozed for six weeks, though the amount of oozing decreased gradually. I had to visit my GP surgery every other day to have my wound cleaned and dressed and at weekends district nurses came to me. It was very frustrating but I was able to go ahead with chemo six weeks after the op. Don't worry, it will clear up eventually and even if chemo is delayed it doesn't matter.

Best wishes, Millie xx

I had a little bit of ooze too, oncologist took swab and my first chemo delayed by one week, it came back negative too. Thankfully it dried up and was able to proceed the following week. Good luck. Ann xo

Hi,

I had wound infection & a small portion of the wound was slow to heal. I bypassed my GP himself, & had appointments with the practice nurses, who are very experienced in dealing with wounds. When I needed antibiotics, they asked my GP to sign a prescription
