I am one of the support nurses at Ovacome and I am not sure I can answer your query either without further details or without speaking to you on the phone. Do please give us a ring on 02072 996650. I am here tomorrow from 10-5, or can you give us a bit more of a context where this has come up - I have an idea but need to know a few more details. Hope you are well

Best Wishes

my daughter is 34 withovarian cancer. she has had a hysterectomery and has been advised to have chemotheraphy wheich she has refused. the oncologisted mentioned a chemo wash where only one drug is used and does not have the severe side effects that regular chemo has. However i have read about a hot wash and i do not know the difference. Hoping you wil be able to tell me the difference.

thanking you and looking forward for your answer

Hi, my understanding is the a hot chemo bath is where warm chemo is literally put in your stomach for an hour or two so that it (in theory) it reaches every little nook and cranny. I asked for this for Christina but was told that there were only a couple of NHS hospitals that did it, one being the Christie in Manchester.

I had heard good things about it and thought it may help when we were looking at the 'last throw of the dice'. My understanding is that it is more gruelling then normal chemo, so i guess anyone that did get it would have to be in decent nick, probably performance status 0 or 1.

Please dont take the above as gospel, but its pretty much what i was told and what i dug up.

Hi, When I had my surgery , I was told I'd had a chemo wash as well. This was due to tumour bursting & leaking fluid.I don't know what it actually entails but the only side effect I had was my hair thinning very slightly & a bad case of thrush in my mouth which started about 3 days after op & cleared in about week.I have no idea about the other one though. Hi Think the reply from 'thehusband' may be the same as introperiotoneal (think that is the name of it) but it is where the chemo drug/s go directly into the abdomen as opposed to intravenous. but don't quote me - there be a reason as to why one system is chosen over another. Hope all goes well for you.
