Back and abdominal pain post chemo.

Has anyone experienced pain in the rib cage and back after completing chemo? My Mother had her chemo treatments for Lung, liver and pancreas cancer which worked amazingly well. There is no cancer left on any of the CT scans. We are all so happy. About 3 or 4 weeks after the chemo ended she is now having this pain in the back and abdominal area. And I am reading it is or could be caused from the chemo but no mention of how long this might last. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there and welcome. I was wondering if your Mum has Ovarian or Primary Peritoneal with spread to the liver, lung and pancreas? I'm told that primary liver cancer is very rare. It's great that there's no evidence of disease on CT and your Mum has had a very good response. Many people are left with niggly pain after treatment so there's probably nothing to worry about. If I were your Mum though, I'd give my Cancer Nurse Specialist at the hospital a call to hear what she has to say. Thank You for the reply. She has talked to both of her doctors and especially the cancer DO they say it is all in her head. So this forum has been a lot of help. She is going to try the cod liver oil and glucosamine and chondroitin that has seemed to work for a lot of people. Thanks and everyone be well.

Her cancer originated in her lung.

I was wondering if it could be GERD which could be treated with something like omeprazole?

Yes. I had exactly the same during and after. Horrible pain under the right rib cage and down my back. I know others have mentioned this on this forum and I have met other women with the same: one who had their gall bladder removed. I think there's def a connection. When I mentioned it to the oncologist he was very non-plussed. Said I'd have to deal with it and get on with it. He said if it was gall stones hundreds if people hVe them and basically tough. Six months from last chemo and the pain is less though. I've not pursued it with my GP as the thought of any more surgery fills me with dread.

I had my gall bladder removed last Feb you don't have to put up with the pain but you oncologist is not the best person to speak to about gall bladder disease as it's not their area of expertise

Well done for great scan, all should settle down soon I would ring your own GP for something to help with this.
