Heart burn and acid reflux

Has anybody had problems with acid reflux. I'm on all the tablets, omezprole, metconpramid etc, but it is getting so bad now, and I can't lay down at night. After trying everything lastbnight my stomach rebelled at 5 am this morning, but ive still got the acid. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks

Viv

Hi, I found Gaviscon worked quite well for me, my nurse told me to try it and it did give some relief, hope you're feeling better soon, love Kaz

Sandra suffers the same. She has omprezole in the morning and tops up with gaviscon liquid double action in pink bottle. Suppose to ease both the heartburn and the indigestion. The normal blue bottle only eases the indigestion. It never seems to last long before another dose of the gaviston. I too suffer with the reflux but omprezole has always been sufficient for my hiatus hernia. Ask if you up the omprezole dosage. Love Paul xx

I've had acid reflux for years, seems to run in my family. You can ask if the dosage of omeprazole can be increased, if you can try another PPI or one of the alternative drugs such as cimetidine or ranitidine, or as Paul says Gaviscon Advance (I think that's the name for the most effective version). Something that might help is sleeping with your upper body elevated by pillows and avoiding bending over. Hope you find something to help. Cxxx

I've been trying to sleep propped on pillows, but it still comes through. Seeing he nurse tomorrow, when I have a lung drain so I'll see what they say, I did wonder if it was the pressure of everything lung, liver pressing on the stomach causing the problem!

Viv, do order a bed wedge, these foam triangles are much much better at ensuring you get to incline, and can go under the pillows. I got one while I was in bed a lot during treatment, because my back was complaining - my other half has stolen it because he finds it massively helps the raging reflux he gets with his hiatus hernia. This was what I got, but there are loads online putnams.co.uk/sleeping/bed-...

I haven't seen that type of pillow before so thanks Sue for the website address. I'm sending off for the pillow as I too suffer with acid reflux/water brash and it's so debilitating on top of everything else.

I'm so glad! It really did help me anyway while I needed it - and I still sometimes steal it back when in the mood for a good Sunday morning lie in with the papers, because it is so much more comfortable than pillows alone! So it is also generally quite useful!

Hi, PRCHICK,

Thank you so much for your tip about the wedge from Putnams! I have struggled with pillows, but I find they make my neck sore when piled up, so I have been wanting to improve my sleeping position for ages and your post made me do something about it. I have just ordered a wedge and plan to put a pillow on top. I am very hopeful this will work. Many thanks again. Angel-Teal13, xx

I've tried a lot of things but keep coming back to Gaviscon - the double action version in liquid form works bestfor me.

Hello, Viv.

My husband has reflux and, besides medicines, the doctor has prescribed light food at dinner and do not eat 2 hours before bedtime.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hugs, Fernanda.

Hi Viv, I have acid reflux due to my hernias, particularly if I bend too much. I've found camomile tea helps me as it seems to calm my stomach.

I hope that you get some relief in the near future as it can be so debilitating.

Love

Trouble is my husbands has never suffered from it and can't understand why I am frightened to eat anything. Did my best with tea last night, salmon fillet on veg and an hour later lost the lot again!!! Think I must all to the hospice nurses for advice......

Wondering if e alkaline diet is worth a try. It's hugely trendy and not for this really - but logically it might affect the overall pH levels I would think. Google it if you fancy giving it a try.

Sorry, another thought. I used to suffer with acid, but since losing weight quite a bit) it has totally disappeared. I used to cope on the odd gavilast every day or so, or swig or three of gaviscon at night, and it was nothing like as bad as proper raging reflux, but even so: lighter and without the tum seemed to equal a return to no reflux at all.

Spoke to the hospice nurse, they are so helpful..... Suggest metocopranide before eating and at bed time and gaviscon after eating. Also up the steroids because of th enflamed liver to see if that helps. Seems better so far..... Fingers crossed it carries on a big longer.

Thanks for all your idea.
