Hi all, I was on avastain, stopped working. Starting cisplatin in two weeks, I was wondering did any of you have it and how did it go?

So far haven't had this mix, I got lucky with Gem and Avastin staying on Avastin until Sept 2015. I have just had recurrence which was a small one and treated with Stereotactic Radiotherapy at Beacon Hospital. If the consultant had refused to take me on, I think I would have been on Carbo. I wish you well and I hope some one will come along and give you the information you require. If you are anywhere near Cork, OVAcare are having a patient day on Sat Sept 1st at 11am at Imperial Hotel in South Mall. This is a good opportunity to meet with other patients and we are welcome to bring along a friend if you so wish.

I am hopefully starting it next week due to being hypersensitive to Carbo. I believe there is a couple of ladies who use this site who have been on it, I am sure they will pick up on your question.

Hi Julia, I have had four lots of cisplatin as part of the Rotterdam regime. I am carboplatin resistant. Cisplatin is an older, harsher version of the platinum drug but I have tolerated it ok. They give plenty anti-sickness meds (Emend and Ondansetron on day of infusion and 2 days after) as well as 3 days steroids. Like carboplatin it can be constipating, so you need to be prepared for that too. It has made me more tired than some previous chemos and I have had to sleep some days, but in the main I'm coping better with it than I thought it would. Good luck with it.

Hi Julia, I started on carbotaxol had 5 doses of that and they changed me to cisplatin. Was due to get three. Felt fine after first dose. Started losing my hair after about a week but otherwise felt good. Unfortunately developed large vessel inflammation (vasculitis) but I don't think it was due to the drug. They decided against any more after that. That 2 years ago now.

Wishing you all the best it's a tough time during treatment but hopefully you will feel ok and get all the treatment.

Best of luck Esther xx

Hi Julia How long were you on avastin before they figured it wasn't working I am currently on it and have had 2 rises of 50 in the Ca125s and doctors dont seem worried until i have symptoms I had frontline chemo in decmeber to april with avastin then avastin on its own every 21days, Thanks Clare

Hi , I was on it a year and in the space of three weeks my ca125 jumped by 300 and then it went up by twenty. I had a ct done and the disease had become active. Now I am starting cisplatin. Get a ct scan done and you will know for sure. Good luck and stay positive.

Hi Julia did you get any other symptoms or was it just a rise in CA 125s I think if mine is up again I might ask for the scan, my onc says its fine until I get symptoms he is under the impression of treating it earlier won't change the outcome but if it prevents me getting another plural effusion it changes the outcome dramatically as its a painful procedure to have it drained. Thanks Clare

Hi Julie,

I was on Avastin for nearly 8 months and then had a reoccurrence as my CA125 rose to 289 and then with two weeks to 500. I was then started 2nd line chemo of cistoplatin/Gemzar which was very successful and there’s no definite evidence of the disease just residual. Starting back on Avastin in next few weeks but am nervous but there’s nothing else other than maybe a clinical trial in the uk which I don’t feel I’d be able for just right now. There’s a conference on 28th of sept which my onc will be at for updates on all cancer research/trials etc so hoping maybe something new may come out if that. Hope your treatment is going well and that you are responding. Take care.
