Thanks Suzuki - I'm doing well, although I couldn't have Avastin last Thursday due to low platelets and haemoglobin ! Hospital say it's because of all the treatment and hopefully they should be more stable on 23rd Feb for next infusion.

I hope you're well!

Ah yes Juliet the treatment does play havoc with our systems no doubt about that but hopefully they will improve and have two weeks to do so. Liver maybe if you can stomach it, many cant in fact. Green veg also is good. I just noticed the next patient day is here in Cork on Saturday March 11th with a different hotel, South Mall, ie Imperial Hotel actually not too far from the Clarion. Have a wedding the day before so hopefully will get up next morning!!!! I am on a drug break at the moment seeing the Onc at the end of March, more than likely will see him at the Patient day if he is one of the speakers.

Hi Joan

Enjoy the wedding, the Patient Day and the Drug Break!

I'd forgotten that the Patient Day was in Cork in March, not Dublin. I won't be able to make it as I will be in Tenerife on the last day of a holiday. I'm sorry to miss it, I find the Patient Days and indeed the coffee mornings very informative and enjoyable.

I had checked with the team at the hospital in relation to taking some health supplements (spirolina for low haemoglobin and krill oil for arthritis that has flared up in my hip) - they checked with their pharmacist and I've have been told not to take them as they can interfere with treatment and /or affect the haemoglobin level. I asked the nurse if there is anything I can do in terms of eating or drinking to help raise the haemoglobin level and she said no, it will just take time for the bone marrow to do what it should be doing, so I hope it will start doing it's job soon and I can continue to get Avastin!

Nice to be heading off somewhere nice and warm as it is quite cold at the moment. Yes the nurse is correct really but if you can eat liver, many cant stomach it, it does help and greens as well, What do you take for the arthritis in the hip as in meds if you are allowed. The sun should help this as well, Have a fab time. I hope to enjoy the wedding, we have decided to come away relatively early. I am wearing the outfit I got for my sons wedding with different shoes and bag which dont look too much of the bridal party outfit.

I've been told that liver will help, but unfortunately even the thoughts of it make me feel ill! I do eat quite a lot of greens. The hospital have told me that I can only take paracetamol for the arthritis until my platelets go back up - I don't find these help much at all. A friend has suggested apple cider vinegar - I guess I'll check with the hospital to be on the safe side. Have you ever heard of this for arthritis?

Sensible choice for wedding outfit !

Juliet

Yes Julie I have but I havent tried it, I used have that sachet of stuff to take but my gp said it was no longer prescribed because there was no great results from it. I imagine heat pads would help a bit, it has helped my upper back.
