The waiting game

10 days ago I had a 15"mass removed from my right ovary. I had a full hysterectomy. The consultant said I will have to wait until 2 be of June for results. How do I get through these few weeks. If I knew, good or bad, I could deal with it, but this way everything is up in the air. Help.

Hello Damelza,

The waiting is just awful so I empathise with you completely! Try not to worry too much as most of the time there is nothing to worry about. What I would say is that it seems a long time to have to wait for results with both surgeries I had results in 2 weeks maybe it's worth ringing to see why you have to wait so long? I am in Ireland BTW so not sure may be different elsewhere??

Online shopping! A good book in the garden. Sophie Sabbage The Cancer Whisperer - is the latest book out on the cancer circuit and meant to be very good. Hope you recover well and results will be back in no time. X

I agree it is a long time to wait, could you ring the gynae liason nurse for results if you have one. If not, well try and rest as much as you can, distract yourself, I am all for distraction myself. I am thinking of you and wishing you well

Thanks ladies for your reply's. Everybody has been very good to me and indeed my kids, and my husband has been great too. I am getting my staples out tomorrow and I am going to give the oncology nurse a call just for my own peace of mind. I too am living in Ireland. (Galway) is where i had my operation.

Hey Damelza,

I had both my surgeries in Galway too and both sets of results 2 weeks after surgery. I was told at the time that it would take 2 weeks! Maybe there is some sort of backlog but I would still question having to wait so long considering your surgery was 10 days ago!

Try not to worry just focus on the fact that you are getting the staples out tmrw and will be able to do more and more each day! Best of luck!

Hi, you need to focus on recovery from the surgery. Some good films to watch. Little treats out, coffee and cake with a loved one or friend, a little walk by the sea if you can, the sound of the waves lapping on the shore is so relaxing. Plenty of rest too. This is time for you, don't feel guilty that you can't help about the house etc, it doesn't matter if there's a bit of dust on the surfaces, if it bothers someone visiting tell them where the dusters are kept and let them get on with it. You've just had a massive assault on your body and mind and you need to recover from this. Much more important in my book. Be kind to yourself over the next few weeks. Unfortunately we cannot change what will be but you are strong so whatever may come, you will get through.

I love this saying - Don't wait for the storm to pass, learn to dance in the rain!

Thinking of you. Ann xo

I had to wait for results like you. Had surgery on 26th October and had to wait for results till 22nd November. Yes it's a terrible wait I thought I would go mad waiting , but my surgeon said because I had such a large Tumor 15 1/2c. It all had to be sliced Nd each section examined. Which makes sense, but when ur waiting u just just want to know what's coming . Try nd focus on healing from ur surgery for now nd getting some strength back. That was in 2011 nd after all the drama of chemo nd radiation I'm still here T . G. Still on 12 week checks with surgeon nd oncologist but that's fine I would rather have it that way. I hope I haven't been too long winded . I will keep u in my prayers nd lite a candle for you .

Hi also from me,

Be assured that none of us ever feel 'old hat' at this waiting lark, so all the advice is so worthwhile trying out...and notice what helps your 'soul' be nourished while you are allowing your body to recover and rebuild. I'm not religious but what living with cancer has definitely help me learn is to separate the joy in my soul for the life I have and what I can choose to put in it and the physical body in which I live and I can only do my very best to look after....my medical care + care of my health + care of my wellbeing.

Warmest wishes,

Lesley x

Thank you ladies for all your replies. I think I felt better last week than I do this week. Staples are out but I find myself in bed a lot, sleeping the day away. My husband said I am too hard on myself. I miss driving and going to see my dad!. Sorry ladies I am having a pity party today. It's not knowing what's around the corner that's the killer. I know that you are all in the same boat. I just have to find my feet first. .....

You are being too hard on yourself. Everyone on here stresses the rest needed post op. You are allowed down days. In fact the nurse told me yestetday!! I went for a last chemo before a short break then the dreaded op. I just burst into tears. Chemo has been my security blanket and made me feel positive. The break from that is scary. I think the tears had been brewing the moment i got out of bed but the poor nurse got the full works. She was lovely though and understood my worry. So get well and try not to constantly dwell on results. Easy to say. Hugs being sent. Tracey. X

Always the waiting time actually worse than to know the result of any scan.I was diagnosed with stage 3 a ovarian cancer in 2014.I had a full hysterectomy at age of 38 and than 6 course of chemo.Everything went well so far till my last checkup in April when my ca125 showed 40.That was a shock because I was absolutely fine.My oncologist wanted to see me in 6 weeks time but I had a blood test 3 weeks after which was still 40 now I had a ct scan too.I don'know the result yet but now I have pain in my abdomen especially when passing urine. Anybody else had the same ?
