o/c awareness month

Girls.

Was reading some posts and thinking - I know, a dangerous thing, and realised that while UK has March as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, here in Ireland we don't. Or did I miss something on TV, radio or in the press.

What can we do to change that? I have a feeling that March may be oesophageal cancer month though.

Anyway, - what a change in the weather, absolutely balmy today - Spring is finally to ready show her face, daffodils are blooming and we do not have to quote the Robert Herrick poem yet - 'Fair daffodils we weep to see you haste away so soon". if only this disease would haste away - soon. Have tiny little roses in bloom also.

So, if you have any appropriate poetry lines to quote to cheer us all up - post them.

Love to all, Daisies

Sorry Daisies I dont know of any poems to quote , but it is great to see the crocus and daffodils beginning to bloom my wild flowers are also showing signs of coming into bloom or maybe its weeds its hard to tell sometimes. It would be lovely to have even a week to make women aware of OC but for some reason Ovarian Cancer seems to be one of the forgotton cancers. ( at least it seems that way ) Kittie

Kittie. Lovely to hear from you and I do hope that your treatment is going well, and only good cells are blooming for you. Love Maureen

Hi daisies. Great suggestion. I found this online and liked it!

Treat yourself

I invite you to go wild, laughing till your sides near burst. And go play like any child, letting raindrops quench your thirst. Start a bonfire with drift wood, or sculpt castles made of sand. And pick berries that taste good, or build forts to scout the land. Splash in the creek in bare feet, chasing fish that swim away. And find monsters to defeat, sweating heat of summer’s day. Giggle at the dog's kisses, or run like you’ll never stop. And poke a snake that hisses, or climb a tree to the top. Gaze at clouds billowing by, basking in innocent play. And treat yourself to peach pie, as if it were your birthday.

Missfitz - you are definitely in a more poetic mode - reading & forwarding such a lovely message - YES, I will treat myself tomorrow (as it is too late today).

Hope you improving rapidly.

Maureen

I really love that thanks for sharing

I think we do have an Ovarian Cancer Day because at one of the Info days I think it was 2013 one of the gynaes said he was due to operate on someone with Ovarian Cancer on that day, is it May or June, maybe we should do something special on that day. Yes my daffs are up but blowing in the wind, they are hasting away too soon. I got small solar lights for my creeper last year and they were lighting tonight for a while. My neighbours probably think I havent taken down the Xmas lights yet????

Hi Daisies

World Ovarian Cancer day is indeed May 8th. Thank for Missfitz for pointing that out. As well as raising awareness, might we treat ourselves on that day. For me a treat would be a walk/stroll in nature. Any other suggestions!

You may have heard the following poem by Nadine Stair, she wrote it when she was 85 years of age. You get a mention on the last line. I hope you enjoy! I figure 'it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings'!

If I Had My Life to Live Over

I'd dare to make more mistakes next time.

I'd relax. I would limber up.

I would be sillier than I have been this trip.

I would take fewer things seriously.

I would take more chances.

I would take more trips.

I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.

I would eat more ice cream and less beans.

I would perhaps have more actual troubles but I'd

have fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I'm one of those people who live sensibly

and sanely hour after hour, day after day.

Oh, I've had my moments and if I had it to do over

again, I'd have more of them. In fact,

I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments.

One after another, instead of living so many

years ahead of each day.

I've been one of those people who never go anywhere

without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat

and a parachute.

If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot

earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.

If I had it to do again, I would travel lighter next time.

I would go to more dances.

I would ride more merry-go-rounds.

I would pick more daisies.

Ah that is really nice and therein lies a valuable lesson we should live less sanely and less wisely and take more chances

Hi Ladies - well what lovely pieces of writing were posted.

know about Ovarian Cancer Day in May - we had the lovely decorated cupcakes from the late Susiequatto, but it would still be nice if more recognition & media awareness was given to OC. Just a thought.

Weather not as nice today, so was glad I enjoyed yesterday. The poem from Chickpea made me realise that we sometimes live our lives planning and not doing.

Regards to all.

Hi Ladies.

Suzuki, you made me feel so bad - that I moaned about the lack of awareness and you were the one to begin to do something.

Well, you motivated me into doing a few e-mails on the very issue - so let the campaign begin. Ovacare may strangle us - as they will have to take on the mantle!!!, but no better ladies to do so.

Let's see who or what replies we get. Signing off - as I have a load of ironing to do now.

Regards to all.
