Eyes etc.

Hello Ladies. As you know I am on long term Avastin and have finished 3rd line chemo (carbo/taxol/avastin). The side effects of the treatment and of course the disease are now showing in the side effects and just wondered in anyone has experienced the same.

Dreadful joint pains since I finished full chemo; raised BP since I sent back on Avastin and a deterioration in eyesight. My eyesight was gone so bad, I didn't even do much needlework and my eyes were sore & itchy so went to see my eye doctor.

another thing I now have to deal with, is a cataract - seemingly is has ripened quickly due to chemo & avastin. So must now face having it removed... I really don't want to get it done & please don't tell me that it is a minor operation, I know. But to raise my mental strength to facing something else ... yuuk & xxxxe.

So ladies , if you think your eyesight is getting worse - get it checked.

Hope you are all well and coping with this Arctic weather.

Daisies

I'm really sorry to hear about your eyes. I didn't know that was a side-effect of Avastin. I hope you can get it sorted out but agree it's just one more thing to have to worry about and go through that you could do without.

Sending loads of love xx Annie

So sorry you're going through such a rotten time, Daisies. I also didn't know about the eyes being so badly affected by this drug. I hope you will soon feel strong enough to deal with this setback, but right now you need to regain your strength and courage, so take it easy on yourself. Get your fighting pants back on when you're ready. I'm going through second line chemo (caelyx/carboplatin) just now - it's a tough regime and I have days where I feel uncharacteristically low, so I'm also working to get back to a strong, positive outlook. It's not easy, I know. xxx

Hi daisies. Sorry to hear you've been dealing with these horrible side effects. I remember hsvung severe dry itchy eyes on first line chemo and it was really horrible. If nothing is in the pipeline for ovacare coffee morning maybe we could arrange one ourselves? Would it help you to raise that mental strength?

Hi --- have justed that Thursday mornings is the only time not suiting me - so throw a few times that suit you, and we can meet for gossip etc.

Maureen

Hi Daisies, I am sorry you are having such a rotten time of it. If it isnt one thing its another. My eyes are itchy this weather am on another antibiotic and went back to see the ent consultant today. I came out with tail between my legs. She told me that the junior doc had found an ulcer in my nose which was never mentioned on first visit. Neither did my gp get a letter from them since first visit. So I was soon deflated this morning I can tell you. So they are now thinking that my symptoms are not from Avastin but another underlying condition. Sent across the yard for more blood tests to see if she is correct. One good thing was the technician got the blood in one attempt. She said you either know how to do it or you dont so never let anyone try more than twice because they havent the knack. I did get a sore nose now and again but felt it was from Avastin. But they arent convinced so got a cream now as well as a nasal spray, drops and antibiotics. So I have the choice of a rodent ulcer, wergeners syndrome or sarcodisis or none of these. So in a way I feel your pain, why do we need more hassle when we have enough to be dealing with, Can they remove your cataract by laser which wouldnt be too bad, I know it would be uncomfy for a few days but worth it in the long run. I am really sorry you are now facing this and maybe as Miss Fitz says we could meet for a cuppa somewhere someday before your procedure All the best Joan

Hi - you are getting it even worse than me and I am really sorry for you. I just hope it is not sarcoidosis , as my brother in law had it years ago and he was 'really, really' sick. If your sore nose is an ulcer, I reckon a steroid cream should help. But keep you face warm and don't overblow your nose. Mind you, the hospitals can sometimes fail to send notes/comments/outcomes of x-rays, scans, etc to our GP. I am now confused as to who my "primary medical provider" is.

Anyway, going to talk to my oncologist next Mon and is he has no problem, I am going ahead with removal of cataract.... I know, it is not major, but I must have been rotten in a previous life - mind you, my friends say, I am rotten in this life anyway!!!!!, so no sympathy there.

I see that Missfitz would also meet for a cuppa - so, while don't we give a few days & dates & either morning or afternoon into the pot, and we will surely agree on a day. At least if we are paying for ourselves - it will save Ovacare some money towards a Patient Day, which is always so informative.

Thursday mornings are not good for me - so that's leaves me able to fit in with your times & also Misstifz.

take care and hope your nose heals up soon. Maureen

Thanks Daisies, I am sorry if I was feeling sorry for myself, yes I am googling and its scary. Then again, my kidney function is okay and my chest ct scans have been okay and my bloods are okay. But got two special bloods yesterday and hopefully the ulcer or whatever it is will clear with the cream, Its just an ordinary cream but costs a fortune, Nasoseptin all I can see is an antibiotic ingredient. I still blame everything on Avastin or since starting Avastin on its own without steroids and chemo so it could well be an inflammatory condition such as sarcodsis, more meds in the offing I would say. The consultant just said she had to do her job as much as I would hate it. So go with the flo. About meeting for a cuppa, I am off tomorrow and free anytime that suits you or MIissFitz or anyone else who is reading this post. I would be free Sat morning or probably anytime next tuesday so get yer thinking caps on.
