I am female, aged 71 and a UK resident.Early in 2023 I experienced significant and prolonged upper back pain, followed a few weeks later by similar lower back pain. X-rays revealed fractures at L1 and L4.

After waiting some time, a DEXA scan showed 'severe' osteoporosis. I am now on an annual programme of alendronic acid infusion, plus daily vitamin D.

My 'risk factors' are autoimmune conditions Addisons Disease and over active Thyroid (removed in May 2024).

Medicines which may contribute to this condition include hydrocortisone for the Addisons and Omeprazole for a hiatus hernia.

Hello, if you are able to do some weight bearing exercise even if it is in short intervals that would at minimum help with the osteoporosis. I too am 71 in the U.S. and have osteoporosis but i have not experienced a fracture. My DEXA scores have improved some and i have more vitality, strength, and a good outlook on life. Before exercising I was not feeling good and my mood was low. The fitness group that i belong to is offering a free class online on September 17 @ 10:00 am EST. OR if you are interested you can set up a free consultation with Meg, the owner. Here is the link:activitiesinmotion.ca/contact/

Thanks and let me know how you are doing. Pam

I have a similar situation. I have had fractures at L2,3, and 4. I did not have surgery, but the healing process was lengthy and painful. So, I am now taking Prolia injections and am on my third year, with no side effects. I resisted for a long time.

I go to physical therapy and take an online class in chair exercises. Since I am at such risk for more fractures, I only see specialists for my exercise program.

I hope your regimen is most helpful for you.
