I have been taking Prolia for a few years now and today was diagnosed with a bone fracture at L1.
Is it possible this could be a side effect of Prolia?

Sorry to hear about your fracture, which must be very painful and a real blow. I think it's unlikely to be a side effect of Prolia, but rather to have happened despite the medication. Unfortunately osteoporosis medications only reduce fracture risk, they don't guarantee to prevent them. I read that Prolia reduces the risk by 60%, which means that 40 in 100 people who would have fractured without it, will still fracture despite taking it.
I'm so sorry you have a fracture, they are so painful! The lumbar ones are doing me in right now, I'm on #10, and find L1-3 to be a very painful spot. Be aware than 1 can lead to 2, etc. I was not prepared for the cascade effect, mine started at T7. Luckily I had never taken any osteo meds, was most surprised by this fractures out of no where! Take it easy, eat well, move as much as you can tolerate, try to get good restorative sleep. I'm on Tymlos now, a bone builder, with a Endo who is already lobbying for Prolia or Reclast after Tymlos, thank goodness my neurosurgeon said "no way" don't even think about it!
Southerngirl, thanks for your reply. I'm so sorry you are also having back problems. I had fusion surgery on L4 and 5 about 2 years ago. Best wishes for you to get better.
I also had a T12 fracture earlier this year on Prolia. I have been wondering the same thing. According to last DEXA I have osteopenia. I can't get another scan til 3/24 so I don't know if I have moved to osteoporosis. I would like to get off all osteo drugs, but don't quite know how.
Hi
I've read ,if you stop taking Prolia and not put on any other bone meds ,the cessation of Prolia can cause spinal fractures
