my recent Dexa reveals I have moved from high risk osteoporosis to medium risk, just a shade under osteopenia. In the past I used Tymlos for 8 months and had to quit because of extreme fatigue. I did reduce down to 4 clicks and experienced a minor change in fatigue. I quit and then had a Reclast infusion a year ago. I don’t know if I should retry Tymlos again (the only bone builder my insurance covers ( my copay is $849 a month). Reclast only stops bone lost. I don’t know if I should hold off on any meds right now. I’m really struggling with the decision?

When making your decision, please keep in mind that osteoporosis is a chronic condition. Primary osteoporosis is a condition of aging. Secondary is due to medical conditions and/or medications.

As a chronic condition, it is something to be managed, not something that can be "cured." And even if your DXA results improve, you still have osteoporosis, that is being managed.

So how do you keep managing it?

Thank you. You are correct. I’ve never panicked with my diagnoses. I was diagnosed at 77. mother had severe osteoporosis starting in her very early 40’s. I’m thinking very seriously of not taking Tymlos and continue with a good diet, exercise and weight bearing. I turn 80 in October.

I had a really bad first two weeks...stopped for two days, and the side effects went down 90%! Fatigue was miserable, but now, it's nearly gone...I have Lupus too, so it's a toss up which is causing it, or the 108 degree temps we've had in Texas this summer! Maybe give it a try again, many have experienced better results after a break. My Endo said to take a break if I want to, a week, or two, here and there...said it's safe and should not cause any losses. I have not had to at this point, on pen #4.

What time if day do you take the Tymlos? And do you eat or drink beforehand?

I took my Tymlos in the morning after I ate and drank some water. I did 4 months at 8 clicks and 4 months at 4. My endo told me two weeks ago that sometimes when you quit and then try again, side effects are less severe. I’m still considering whether to resume Tymlos. If I do, it’ll be during the winter months when I’m not traveling as much.

I inject around 8pm, I have not eaten in around 3 hours. I drink raspberry tea up to about 8pm. Never had nausea or digestive issues. How are you doing with Tylmos? I'm thrilled that all my OP caused cavities are gone! Teeth are restored, even a different color!

I read once you take a bisphosphonate that if you go back to an anabolic it won’t work as well so Reclast is a bisphosphonate

I don’t think Tymlos will work as well now and btw how many months did you do 8 clicks and now many months did you do 4? I personally am on Tymlos and have trouble keeping the dose past 6 clicks- I did an electrolyte package this morning before the shot and that works well
