Hi,

My name is Betty. I have osteoporosis. Tscore -3.2in spine and -3.3 in femur.

I have a Vibration plate and would like to know if anyone has had luck improving their bone density using and how often.

I am very thin by nature, 5 ft 3 in and weigh 94 lbs.

Thanks!

great handle on your profile “ skin and bones”. I’m 72 yrs old, 95 lbs, and have shrunk to below 5’ ( list 5 inches). And could easily be called skin and bones too!! I don’t have a vibrational plate but I do lean up against my washer when it is on the spin cycle for the vibrational effect. My osteoporosis caused thoracic spine fractures so I go easy on myself! Good luck with your tool. Moira

I haven’t heard of a vibration plate, just do walking, , I’ve had thoracic fractures like GMoi. And I am the Same weight as you both as 4 ft 11. Good luck and take care

Skinandbones, if you search this platform you will find that there are several other posts about vibration plates and the different intensity levels. I have also been curious about their effectiveness, but haven't really been able to figure that out. I think that if you read through the threads on this site you will be able to find some people with knowledge on the topic. Best of luck!

I am 65 and use a Marodyne low-intensity vibration platform daily. I do Loren Fishman's 12 yoga poses daily. I also do nordic walking 3 miles a day.

In one year (since OP diagnosis in spine in Dec 2021), my spine improved from -3.3 to -3.1 (L2-L4 only). My left hip improved from -2.0 to -1.7 ( ). HOWEVER, my trabecular bone score is very low, and I ended up fracturing L1 at a hip-hop class in Nov 2022. I am now on Tymlos.

It's impossible to say what helped, but my rheumatologist recommended the vibration plate, and prior to my diagnosis I was losing BMD in my spine at an accelerated pace (at least 3.8% per year from 2017). Best wishes!

do bc you recommend the marodyne even with its price ?

it was very expensive, but with a fracture I was concerned about too much vibration, and I know the marodyne is safe, check out, Margaret Martin’s reviews in Melio guide.

yes I’ve been checking and studying them. The live pro waver is less g force and same hertz as the marodyne

did you have a dexa with tbs?

Mahler02 profile image
Mahler02 in reply to Raleigh59

yes the Dexa with the TBS wasn’t too bad. I had to use a different machine than the one that scored my spine at -3.1. The DEXA with the TBS said I was borderline at -2.5 spine , but the TBS was entirely in the red something like 1.08 I think. I’m a classic example of someone who was borderline and the TBS indicated serious problems.

did you wait a year imbetween dexas ?

Mahler02 profile image
Mahler02 in reply to Raleigh59

i had two dexas a year apart at a hospital indicating stability/improvement.

I had the tbs in my doctor’s office, also a year apart. His office uses a different/older model of scanner so I just focus on the tbs. . The bmd for spine and hip on his machine is osteopenic.

how is Tymlos for side effects ?

Mahler02 profile image
Mahler02 in reply to Raleigh59

after two months the side effects are pretty minimal. But I find it helps if I take it in the morning before I go on my walk.

Raleigh59 in reply to Mahler02

what are the side effects

Mahler02 profile image
Mahler02 in reply to Raleigh59

Rapid heatbeat ( 80-ish vs my normal 60-65), slight nausea and head “fullness” not exactly a headache. I staring Month 3 and they are barely noticeable!

wow- I am planning now to do the Tymlos patch when it comes out

I am pretty sure I have severe numbers and will have severe tbs . I guess the tbs is what matters most. Because of a difficult dexa done by first time student , they canceled my results, nonetheless I saw them and they are severe. I no can redo it at a different place and get tbs but I already know it will be all severe.

Or I can get an rems scan

That’s a good plan!!!

which one is a good plan?

Goood plan to get the TBS to help with fracture decisions. I didn’t go on medication for a year after finding out I had osteopenia/osteoporosis in December 2021.. My rheumatologist didn’t think it was necessary since I was borderline and quite active. My spinal x-ray looked fine but he did order a TBS, which was in the red. He told me to keep doing what I was doing (vibration, supplements, yoga, etc).

I ended up fracturing L one at the gym in a hip-hop class in November 22. I just thought I had pulled a muscle and finally got an x-ray 2 weeks later.

In retrospect, I should’ve taken my TBS score much seriously and requested tymlos.

I know it’s hard when you don’t have all the info. Most likely you’ll get a mix of results. Good and bad. Tymlos is kind of a piece of cake frankly and if you do have low TBS, it will give you some protection against fracturing.

low tbs means worse and high tbs means better?
