Silent reflux

I have previously posted on here....around 6 weeks ago following an appointment with ENT where I was told I had silent reflux.....Since the appointment I have been on 20mg Omeprazole twice daily ( was on 20mg just in the morning previously and have been for over 30 years probably)..... and Gaviscon or Peptac liquid which was prescribed by my GP as Gaviscon was rather expensive ....the Gaviscon I take after each meal and the peptac before bed.

Since increasing Omeprazole and taking Gaviscon I in some ways have felt worse....so bloated, headaches, stomach ache mainly.

I've read that Gaviscon can raise blood pressure which worries me as mine can be high at times anyway.

I haven't slept well since the ENT visit. I think worry and increased symptoms are the main reason for this. I am sleeping wedged up and on my left side but I think this is on my mind constantly to stay in this position.

Some days I feel like I have something stuck in my throat.....unsure whether this is anxiety or reflux too.

No-one to talk to and I really don't understand much about what is going on or what to expect at my next ENT review appointment which should be anytime now.

Am I highly likely to end up with something serious due to silent reflux??

I know this is a long read and thank you to you for your time.

I'm sorry you are suffering. And that you have no one to talk to. I would suggest reading Dr.Louise Kaufman's book Acid Reflux Diet. She's a renowned expert. I would also suggest getting help with your anxiety.Could you afford therapy? Or read about Minfulness or do a Mindfulness course.Good luck.x

hi I've been diagnosed with silent reflux too. My main symptom is that my mouth feels like its burning, Not all the time but often. I get relief from that by chewing gum. I don't get on well with Omeprazole and get the same symptoms as you. I have managed by cutting out certain foods in particular red and white wine although I can still drink prosecco. I took Gaviscon at night but I'm trying to stop that too as it is high in salt. So I think its a matter of finding your own way. I also get the lump in the throat and difficulty swallowing pills from time to time. Ask your doctor to change your Omeprazole for an alternative. There are a few.

Hi.Have you reported these symptoms to your GP? I have been diagnosed with silent reflux amd Barretts syndrome. My GP sent me fir tests because 2 siblings died of oes cancer. The Barretts is still low level currently I'm due to return 3 years after last endoscopy...but in the context of that family history I was given a red-light list for when I should return straight away which included difficulty of swallowing. Of course thise difficulties can be caused temporarily by all sorts of bugs...so several times I've ignored and its gone within a few days.
