Nissen fundlopication experiences

Hi,I'm currently being assessed for nissen fundlopication surgery. I'm wondering what other people's experiences are of this surgery. Was it successful and for how

long ? Were/ are there any problems or downsides? I would be really grateful for your feedback because I'm feeling ambivalent about having the operation.

All I can tell you is I was advised against having the fundoplication as I have poor oesophageal peristalsis and it was deemed I would be made worse by the surgery. I would most likely not be able to swallow easily or vomit if needed. I stress that is my case as I have other gastric issues as I mentioned.

I am sure others may well have experiences and I hope they can help you with their outcomes. Your medics will give you information and advice to help you make your decision. Best wishes.

Thanks. I have had a manmometry to see how my oesophagus is functioning and am awaiting results. If I'm a good candidate for the surgery I 'm trying to weigh up whether to go ahead.

I had that surgery 4 months ago and am much better now - though still not prefect. I had the TIF procedure over a year ago and it helped a little at first but didn't last. After the fundoplication surgery it is still better. I do still a little bit agitated (at the back of my mouth) at times but ant-acid chews makes it go away quickly.

Also, I can burp at least a bit and have given up carbonated drinks for tea. Carbonated drinks are likely to cause gas if you drink them. Onions and other things can also cause gas. I'm still learning what does and doesn't work.

All that said different people have different reactions so best advice is to discuss everything with your own doctor/surgeon to see what they recommend for you. For me I'm glad I had the surgery!

The best of luck to you and your results! I know very well how reflux makes you feel!!

I had the surgery two and half months ago. It’s better then before. The heartburn didn’t pass completely, but it is less.
