PPI LONG TERM

I have a hiatus Hernia and have been taking Omeprazole 20 mg for 15 years approx. I have had terrible heartburn when trying to reduce the amount. I do worry about the long term health affects whilst on PPI's and would like to know if anyone has had success in controlling their stomach acid without PPI's.

I am taking apple cider vinegar with mother capsules I get them off AmazonIt is taking a long time to adjust. I started by taking PPI one day and there next apple cider, now I'm at PPI the two days on the capsule. I am going very slowly, tried to rush and paid the price

It doesn't matter how long it takes I'm not in a race. Hope my experience could help you

Good luck 🤞

Thank you for your reply on how you are aiming to reduce PPI's. I will take on board your advice. This morning I have started taking Tums x2 and then depending on how things go, will take my Omeprazole tomorrow and try to alternate. I hadn't thought of apple cider, but will look into this

Hi, I also have a hiatus hernia and been on ppis for many years. I weaned myself off Omeprazole too, roughly over 4 weeks, it’s important to take your time and do it slowly. I take apple cider vinegar 3 times a day, capsule form to protect my teeth. I also take a digestive enzyme with each meal and betaine hcl with my main meal in the evening, all to help food digest. These supplements help low stomach acid which is mostly the case and not high stomach acid as we are told. as the symptoms are the same. A strict diet too is so important , no spicy food, tomatoes, garlic, onion, try to keep off as much processed food as you can, basically eat very healthy and you really do notice a big difference. Look into low acidic food and drinks, limit alcohol in take and stay away from carbonated drinks and citric fruit juices. I know it sounds extreme but it really does help. As I said in most cases low stomach acid causes the same symptoms, look at information by Dr Berg, there’s plenty of videos of him on line. Unfortunately this all does take time, there’s no quick fix, but it can be done 😊

Thank you for your reply. Could you advise me on the brand of ACV. I have looked on the internet and Hey Nutrition have one which is in the form of a gummy. I will look at alternating the days between a PPI and ACV. I do eat healthy, but have used onions, tomatoes etc ( as mentioned ) , which I realize I must omit. PPI 's have worked for me at 20 mg, but I read more and more on the dangers of their long term use .

yes, the long term use is pretty scary. I was given h2 blockers, doubled my dosage of Omeprazole and all in all it was making me worse, the chest pain and abdominal was terrifying. I order mine from Amazon, they’re called The Longevity Co Apple Cider Vinegar With The Mother £9.99. I also take aloe Vera juice from h &b to soothe my stomach lining from all the acid and meds over the years. Caffeine too is something you may want to cut out or cut down, coffee & chocolate especially. There is so much information out there to help and more natural ways to make you feel so much better. As well as dr bergs videos and advice, which I highly recommend, a couple of good books with lots of information that may help ,, How I Cured My Silent Reflux and Why Stomach Acid Is Good For You..

Good luck xx

Have you tried Gaviscon. It works differently in that it layers on top of the the stomach and prevents reflux.
