Has anyone read about/suffered from what seem to be nighttime panic attacks which are brought on by GERD?

Are you talking about a sudden sense of doom that comes over you suddenly for no reason? Really weird feeling like you’re about to pass out? I have acid reflux and a few months ago I began to experience that but I never would have made the connection to GERD! The only way I could control it was to ignore it when I felt it coming on and eventually they stopped. Is that your experience? I googled it and apparently it’s a thing!

I have the exact same feeling.. just as I’m drifting off to sleep, I’m suddenly woken by this anxiety attack..same feeling of impending doom! Awful isn’t it! I shall now have to Google this too! Any one else?

If you google it , unless you’re stressed about something which is an anxiety attack, what we’re experiencing is a panic attack which is not connected to any stress or anxiety. I can be in bed reading when it comes over me. Sometimes it is so intense, I get nauseous. But I am not at all anxious or stressed before it comes on by rather very relaxed. I have to say, I never had anything like this until a few months after Covid 😡.

Best regards and wishes that you will be rid of these before long!

Yes I woke up in the night with a horrible panic attack. I had ringing in my ears and my heart was thumping and I felt very jittery. I went and sat quietly and watched TV until it passed. I put it down to Gaviscon as I was taking it every day and its high in salt which can cause your BP to rise.

Sorry not replied before I have been trying to work out what these episodes are about. It happens to me every morning about 5am. The pharmacist suggested sucking a sugar free sweet to relieve the dry mouth which accompanies the ‘anxiety attack’. This is more effective than having a drink which then means needing a wee. I have upped the Gaviscon at bedtime and if I wake up. This is in addition to the Lansoprazole I now take on alternate days. I am still not sure what it’s about or more importantly how to stop it happening. Blood tests normal, not diabetes.
