Reflex and breathlessness help.

Hi, I'm new to this site and would really appreciate some help.I'm 66 and have suffered acid reflux since I was a teenager due to a hiatus hernia. Over the last year my symptoms have become much more severe.I take Cimetidine which has helped with the constant coughing. It is now sporadic. I have also developed quite severe breathlessness. And I am wondering whether other people have experienced this and what helped. My fear is that the acid is damaging my lungs. Obviously it could be an unrelated condition. Thanks in anticipation of your replies.x

I became short of breath and had rhinitis to name a couple of symptoms. Gavison advance and acidex advance (cheaper alternative) has the only license for lpr treatment. I have been taking it after meals and before bed - hopefully it will work. I also have a HH found by scope 10 years ago. Props bigger now.

Hi Jumpey, I am just seeing your post now. I am currently dealing with the same thing, i.e. a lot of breathlessness. I have lpr acid reflux and hiatal hernia, have been on acid reducers 2x a day, have lost 20 lbs. on the acid watchers diet. I cough up mucus throughout the day. I also have asthma but by pulmonologist thinks something else is driving it. I had a mucus test that showed I have an antibiotic-resistant infection in my lungs, but this is not the major problem. I also have had a few CT scans and my doctor has determined that my stomach contents are aspirating into my lungs. Its really hard living like this. I do have a plan to have surgery for this as nothing else has worked.First, they require me to have an endoscopy, then a 24 hr. home test with a tube down my throat to measure the acid reflux. This will determine if I am a good candidate for the surgery. Then after those two tests, my insurance co. in the U.S. will pay for it. I can get discouraged because it takes very little activity and I have to sit down to catch my breath. The breathlessness is the worse part. I have also wondered if there were others dealing with this, so I am glad to hear your story. I hope this helps in some way. I will post after my surgery to share the outcome. It looks like it may happen in May. I hope you will look into all possible solutions. It took a long time for me to get this far.

Huge good luck.I hope you get relief soon. I'm at an earlier stage of diagnosis than you I think. I empathise. It's a real challenge coping with the acid and breathing complication .I feel unwell a lot of the time and I'm guessing you do too. Take care.x
