Told to be induced at 40 weeks due to my age

Hospital doctor told me I will need to be induced at 40 weeks due to my age meaning placenta may stop working (I'm 40). Midwife told me I don't have to be induced it is my choice. Has any one else followed this advice or not? Thanks.

Hi mine story is slightly different I had to be induced at 37 weeks as I had gestional diabetes and they were concerned my placenta may stop working I decided to do this as the pros weight out the cons. The process is a waiting game once they induce you. Unfortunately for me my little one still didn't want to come out after 3 days so I opted for a c section.

I think you just have to know all the facts to make your decision and then decide like I did if it's right for you and your baby.

Hope that helps but it isn't as scary as it sounds it's just a little helping hand

Thanks for your reply it was helpful. It's scary to be told your placenta may stop working. I think you're right I need to know the facts. I'll try to ask more at my next doctor's appointment. Best wishes.

Glad it helped. They can't always give you a % but ask what % it's important to be induced. What is the downside to not being induced? (Horrible question but you need to know everything to make the right Decision.)

What are your thoughts on it is there a reason your not sure about being induced?

But whatever ever decision you make when your holding that little bundle of joy you will forget what you went through.

And if you have to have a c section I thought they were the worse thing ever but mine was fine and recovery wasn't as bad a I've heard.

Would love to know how you get on.

Also Don't stress about it you and the doctors will make the right decision for you. 😊

Hello Samcz ,

It is really important that you make an informed decision as Babypigeon says. It is also important to consider all the other factors which may be relevant in your case, such as your personal medical history, any previous pregnancies etc.

The Doctors/Consultants and Midwifes will want to work with you, to help you come to a decision that is best for you and your baby. It is important to explore all the options and have a completely open and honest discussion.

Be really honest about anything that is worrying you or may affect your decision. They will be able to suggest where to go to get further information which may help you make your decision.

Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy.
