What was in your hospital bag?

Hi everyone,

Hope you can help - looking for some advice. I don't want to overpack, but I don't want to miss anything important. Can you tell me what you had in your hospital bag when you were pregnant? What did you actually use? Anything you wished you had with you?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyrose,

It is hard not to overpack! I wouldn’t worry too much! But the things I was really pleased I had were;

- lip balm

- snacks!

- comfy loose clothes for in case you end up staying in hospital and for going home. A couple of outfits was fine for me

- a pillow from home

- a warm suit for baby when we left hospital

- breast pads

- phone charger!

We forgot to have any cash and it’s probably ok now but was a bit annoying for quick hospital shop trips and parking.

I’m not sure we were very organised so other parents may be able to offer more help! What have you got so far?

Thank you! This sounds good. Were you able to eat during labour? Were there any restrictions on what you could have?

Hi, I don’t think there was restrictions but I can’t really remember. I ended up having a c-section and at this point they limited food and drink. I was in hospital for a bit after giving birth and this is where snacks came in handy!

Yes 100% take some food with you if you have to be in for a few days!

Hi I was in hospital for 8 days with my little one so had to send home for more but the main things I packed a bag for me and a bag for my little one

Mine : underwear, night dresses with buttons x3(had to get more but this was planning on being out asap),hot water bottle, magazines, phone charger, toiletries, clothes to go home in loose and comfortable, slippers, lip balm, breast pad, maternity pads, dressing gown, hairband, pillow, towels. Any medication you maybe on.As you can see I took everything but the kitchen sink but I used it all.

And then for little one

A few baby grows, blankets, nappies, cotton wool balls, a hat( the hospital did give us one but it got dirty) and don't forget to have your car seat ready to be brought into the hospital in your last day as the midwife normally wants to see it before your discharged.

Hope this helps 😊

I am the same I had brought everything I needed in the January little one was due till July 🤣, I did hold off packing the hospital bag until May but I unpacked it and repacked it so many times but at least I knew I had what I needed. Good luck for when little one arrives and if you need anything else let us know. X
