Does anyone else suffer with wanting to throw up after eating. I have suffered from this since my op in January this year.

Since my op I have had an endoscopy, a barium swallow and the latest was the balloon stretch to see if this would help with my sickness problem. I cannot seem to eat very well at all, unless it's sloshy things, mostly a sweet instead of a savoury meal.

I desperately want to eat but it just doesn't seem to happen.

Hi Jan,

This was a problem for me for a while after surgery but it was the sweet things causing it, anything with a high refined sugar content.

After 3 goes with endoscopy with the balloon stretching, it did slowly ease off about twelve months after surgery.

I believe it was a combination of the stretching, healing from surgery and my re-designed digestion system just settling down.

It sounds as if you are working with your consultants on this which is good.

Everyone is different in the way their bodies react, cope with eating and heal after surgery, I was told 9 months before it all settled down but it was nearly 18 months before I felt well again.

My surgery was in Sept 2006 so five years out and I'm eating everything fine now as small portions.

Best regards,

Dave C

Many thanks for your help, I DO eat alot of sugar things, I have an obsession with eating sweets, which I have never done before my op, I will try and stop eating them, but it seems the only thing that keeps me going at the moment, I only usually manage two mouthfuls of a meal at a time!

Hi Jan

Maybe your portions are too big, I know for almost a year I had my dinner on a side/tea plate..now 3 years later have it on a breakfast plate. I suffered alot with sickness feeling but if I stick to plain foods seem to be ok.

Hi Bernadette,

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately it's not the size of the portions, I only usually eat a couple of mouthfalls but I have to admit that since my balloon stretch it does seem to be a little better, so hopefully this is the answer.

hi Jan, I had my op in december this year I too feel sick if I eat a bit too much,so I to have my meals on a side plate.

I had the sickness, and the stretch which did help me to get food down better.

It has got less with time, I only get it now and again.

I was given sickness tablets before my op, would you be able to speak to a specialist or doctor, try them.

Hi My name is Tony My op was nearly 5 years ago, yes I still have sickness now and again normally when I eat late, if I eat before 1800hrs I do not vomit

I do find spicey meals like a curry does it so I leave them alone. also a childs plates help with the size.
