You will have plenty of time to further your burping career, Margie and Gerard, I'm four and a half years post op., and still burping beautifully.

I dont so much now but for 18 months after surgery I did which was rather embarrasing although my family and close friends understood. It cleared up and only happens nown and again now so it can get better

With the stomach now vertical the wind gets trapped by food or drink. It's intermittent usually released by moving about Have perfected the art of not making too much of an exhibition of myself. Small price to pay for last 20yrs.

Good luck with it sally

Yes I get this a lot . Good tip about moving about . Have also read on here that sitting/standing upright with arms held up can help release wind .

Read on archived copy of OPA newsletter that it might also be caused by stomach not emptying at correct speed due to pyloric sphincter not operating correctly .

Burping- an issue that keeps on bubbling up. I'm 6 years post op and still have the odd boubt. I have found the following to significantly reduce the generation of gastric wind.

Background:

Wind is caused by bacteria in your gut and is perfectly normal. Post op many of us suffer from excessive wind, which is caused by the same bacteria increasing in population. The cause of the increase can be the diet you eat, antibiotics changing the proportion of types of gut bacteria or the bacteria moving into the wrong area of the gut.

Solution is to rebalance the gut bacteria.

Methods which may not always work for all, but certainly worth attempting as it has worked for many with similar conditions:

1. Probiotic supplements-

"Bowel calm" by optibac.

2. LOVE LIFE Acidophilus and Bifidobacteria

3. Probio 7

Buy a months worth of supplement and alternate each day between the three. The reason for alternating is to ensure a wide range of bacteria are available to repopulate your gut.

Good luck!
