pulsing discomfort in chest

I have been diagnosed with oesophagitis following a endoscopy. From time to time I get what I can only describe as uncomfortable ( not hugely painful) radiating pulses in my chest ( normally left side but not exclusively). They last say 2/3 seconds but in waves of about elapsed time of say 10–15 mins. They are not accompanied with any other symptoms. Any cardiac issues have been discounted following Treadmill, CT , MRI , angiogram. I recently had open heart surgery on repairing an aneurysm in my thoracic ascending aorta . The pulses I am referring to started two years ago before the issues with aorta known and have returned post the operation. I have tried lanzoprosal and nearly all the others but as these pulses are so spasmodic and irregular I don’t take a PPI regularly.

any one get similar linked to oesophagitis or another digestive issue?

hi Rob. Hopefully you’ll get some knowledgeable replies soon! I’m no expert but I’ve read that Oesophagitis is often linked to acid reflux and there is a community on here specifically for that problem. You might get more info there. Most threads on this community seem to be about oesophageal cancer, and related treatment.

thanks. So there is a health unlocked community for acid reflux?

So sorry to hear of your dilemma. I am no expert but have been through a lot and have been both helped and hindered by doctors and nurses. I don't know what's causing your problem, but here are a few things to mull over and act upon as you feel you should. Have you been able to talk to the heart consultant again or neurologist? Have you definitely got oesophagitis or is it cancer - has that been ruled out. Oesophagitis can be caused by an allergy or medication . Ask for allergy tests and read prescription leaflets for side effects if you are taking any. :Talk to your pharmacist or an online doctor. it could be linked to disruption in your vagus nerve. Does it happen after you have eaten - fuller stomach may be pressing on nerves. (I get discomfort in right chest if I eat too much near scar tissue caused by

esophagectomy operation Perhaps you may need something other than the antacid prescribed - would gaviscon help? Could it be gall bladder problems? Don't put up with it until you are satisfied. I have had various illnesses, including oesophageal cancer, 3 heart valve problems, adrenal failure (nearly died because of 2 medicines telling my adrenals to stop working, in layman's terms ) and rare lung disease. I think you have to do a lot of personal research on the internet - Mayo clinic website can be good and general searches - Healthline is useful, but don't be alarmed by everything out there. I did end up paying for one private consultation with heart specialist through Spire hospitals, after several unsatisfactory and inconclusive NHS ones. Thankfully he put me back into NHS for further tests and I found out what was up with my heart. I hope I haven't bamboozled you and sorry if anything is unclear, unhelpful or alarmist. I do hope you get sorted out.

I am just so thankful to God for helping me through everything and try to be thankful for each day.

Just persevere till you get answers.

bless you

Bien aimee.

thanks. I have had all the heart tests eg CT, mri and angiogram. If not Heart and blood supply issue then I am assuming it’s a gastric type issue but from my reading it’s certainly not classic heartburn which I understand is mainly felt behind the sternum. I suppose one of my aims in writing the post was whether anyone suffering long term acid reflux or oesophagitis had any symptoms like this? It’s also so episodic with no obvious food/drink/ stress trigger.

A final point in response is that it isn’t cancer which they checked for in endoscopy and biopsy.

hi hunsdon - by the same, do you mean you get pain/discomfort outside of the sternum area like in the way I describe? I don’t get any sickness . I am well used to acid reflux and sick coming up in throat etc but these sensations are nearly always in the day
