I am suffering from chronic oesophagitis garde B. I am taking ppi 40 sometimes 20 mg daily for the last 3 years and remains symptom free. Can anybody tell me is there any safe drug other than ppi for life long. But i can't be good without ppi or H2 blocker

Hi Ruqys

I noticed no one had replied. Do you know what is causing the problem? Is it a hiatus hernia? If the latter you may need to keep taking the ppis. I dont think they are great drugs but if you keep an eye on your bloods regarding nutrition you should be ok. Iron B12 calcium, vitamin D etc

Thanks, I don't have hiatus hernia but loose sphincter. Should I go for non allopathic treatment instead of ppi

Hi I assume you have you been scoped if you know your sphincter's loose? If not I would def speak to your gp and get one booked. If the ppis keep the acid away this is good. You want to avoid Barretts if you can.

Yes, I want to avoid barrettes that is why I am taking ppi regularly for more than 3 years now. But got to know recently that ppi Infact increases tha chances of cancer, so I want to shift to other safe medicines if available

Have you tried zantac... (ranitidine)? It's not supposed to have the same level of risk. Other than than it is knowing what foods cause problems for you and sleeping upright, smaller more frequent meals. I occasionally use slippery elm to calm things down. Seems to help. Manuka honey is also supposed to be soothing. I found a post on another forum from a lady who healed her oesophagitis using slippery elm and gaviscon advance at night.

The best thing you can do is research the risks in the literature and/or speak to your GP or see a GI physician.

Thanks for your reply. Rantidine too keeps me symptom free. But don't know whether it would heal my oesophagitis
