Oesophagitis without knowing it?

Hi all

3 years ago I was diagnosed with severe erosive Oesophagitis. I was much heavier than I am now, took 10mg omeprazole but still had indigestion, choking at night, hoarse voice, clearing throat etc. Anyway 9 weeks of low acid diet, losing 2 stone and high dose ppi and my Oesophagitis had healed up. I dropped down to 10mg omeprazole again. I had 24hr pH and manometry which showed a relaxed valve into my stomach. So long story short I eat so much better and control reflux on 10mg omeprazole. So I have none of the symptoms I had before and generally feel good. So recently I have been under a lot of stress (aren't we all) and I feel.a bit of tension in my throat which I think maybe my thyroid (I am hypothyroid) I'm also having chiropractic treatment fir headaches that includes making upper back and neck crack. So as I have been feeling anxious about my throat I'm now thinking I can feel food as it goes down into my stomach. Sometimes I realise that I am totally tensed up.in my upper body. So my question is could I have Oesophagitis again without really feeling any symptoms? I'm wondering if it's all anxiety. I do tend to over think things.

I would appreciate your thoughts

Thank you

I would consult your doctor now - don’t be put off by Covid. My hospital ( London)are still doing all operations and procedures as necessary so must be doing consultations. Best to check it out I’d say, to ease your stress levels. Best wishes to you

Hi there make an appointment with your GP they might try upping your Omeprazole for a while to see if it helps. Worrying about it wont help.Take Care

Your two replies are spot on. You must seek review (even by phone) with your GP. Your oesophagitis may have returned or something else may have developed. Don’t wait. Seek help now.

Wouldn't I have heartburn or indigestion or something? I don't really have any symptoms like before.

Your sensing of food passing down is in itself a symptom and your history mirrors mine. Speak to your GP and get an endoscopy to check. Best wishes Mark

Oesophagitis will cause severe pain, in your case you will know it first hand.

The muscle reacts to your mental health. If its not balanced such as stress anxiety et al then the chemical balance in the body will also be messed up and cause further loosening up of the sphincter as well overtightness of the surrounding tissue, hence feeling of food passing.

I hope you don't have difficult of passing the food but only feeling of "feeling" it passing.

Try to see if your current symptoms persist if you can be without anxiety. If they do then for sure reach to your GP please.
